R44 vs R66 vs H125 vs Bell 407
Seats, speed, cabin, pros and cons of the helicopters you may fly in Bali, and which class fits which group.

You book a class and we confirm the exact helicopter in your quote. The 4-seat class takes up to 4 guests, the 6-seat class up to 6, and groups of 7–8 fly in two helicopters together. Most tourist flights in Bali use single-engine light helicopters flown by a licensed operator's pilot.
The class follows the number of guests and their combined weight, not the length of the flight.
| Class | Guests | Typical models in this class | Per flight hour | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4-seat class | up to 4 | Robinson R44 (3 guests), Robinson R66 (4 guests) | $2,300 | Couples, small groups, scenic flights, proposals, transfers |
| 6-seat class | up to 6 | Airbus H125 (up to 5), Bell 407 and Airbus H130 (up to 6) | $3,300 | Families, groups with bags, island days |
| Two helicopters | 7–8 | Two aircraft from the classes above | 2 × 4-seat rate | Groups who want to fly together |
Model names are a guide to what each class means. Which helicopter flies on your date depends on availability and is written in the quote. Prices: price page.
Seats are only the first limit. In Bali's heat the helicopter lifts less than in cool air, so the real limit is combined weight: pilot, guests, bags and fuel. We therefore ask for rough weights when you book, and we place the group in the class that flies with a margin, not at the edge.
Route length matters too. A 12-minute flight over the Bukit carries little fuel and can take a fuller cabin. A crossing to Lombok or the Gili Islands needs more fuel and, with a heavy group, a larger class or two helicopters. Details are in weight limits and baggage.
Landing site size and air temperature on the day also decide the aircraft. If a hotel lawn is small, the pilot may choose a helicopter with a smaller rotor, or ask you to start from a nearby approved pad. See landing at a villa or hotel.
General facts about models that operators use for tourist and charter flying in Indonesia. Cruise speeds across the group are about 110–135 knots (205–250 km/h).
| Model | Seats for guests | Engine | What guests notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Robinson R44 | 3 + pilot | Piston | Light, two-blade rotor, big windows, front-seat views |
| Robinson R66 | 4 + pilot | Turbine | Smoother and quieter than the R44, room for 4 |
| Airbus H125 | up to 5 + pilot | Turbine | High-performance single-engine, strong in heat and at altitude |
| Bell 407 | up to 6 + pilot | Turbine | Wide cabin, large windows, four-blade rotor |
| Airbus H130 | up to 6 + pilot | Turbine | Very large windows and a quiet shrouded tail rotor |

Almost all tourist helicopters in Bali are single-engine. Daytime sightseeing and short island crossings are normally flown this way, under the operator's licence and the pilot's judgement of the weather and sea.
Twin-engine helicopters exist in Indonesia, mostly for offshore, medical and VIP work. They cost more per hour and are booked by quote, for example for a long over-water expedition. If your plan needs one, say so on WhatsApp and we check what is available.
The ground crew check names, weights and bags. A scale is used for soft bags when the load is close to the limit.
The pilot explains seat belts, doors, how to approach the helicopter and what to do after landing. It takes about five minutes.
Headsets give you an intercom with the pilot. Doors stay shut in flight.
The pilot hovers, checks the controls and climbs on the planned route. You can ask for a different angle over the intercom, as far as safety and air traffic control allow.
The class is fixed when you book (4-seat, 6-seat or two helicopters). The exact model depends on availability on your date and is written in the quote.
You can ask for a class and for specific needs, such as large windows for photography or room for bags. We pass this to the operator and confirm what is possible.
Flights are planned with wind, visibility and the sea state in mind, and the pilot decides on the day. Ask about flotation equipment and life jackets for island crossings; see what to ask an operator.
No. Doors stay shut for passenger flights. Door-off flying for filming is only possible when the operator and the aircraft approvals allow it; see aerial photography flights.
Soft bags only, in the baggage compartment. The limit is combined weight and the space on the day, so tell us the number of bags and rough weights.
Send the number of guests, rough weights and the flight you want. We reply the same day with the class, the pad and a fixed price.
