Helicopter Proposal Packages and What They Cost

Prices are for the whole helicopter (up to 4 guests) and include the pilot and fuel. Sparkling wine, flowers, the landing-site set-up and the photographer are already inside the package prices.

Four Ways to Ask From or With a Helicopter

The helicopter changes where and how you ask. These four setups come up most; each can be adjusted to your partner's taste.

Ask in the air over Uluwatu

On the 18-minute flight the pilot follows the cliff past Uluwatu Temple. You wear headsets, so write the question on a card, hold it up and keep the ring box in your other hand. Your partner answers on the intercom, and the pilot keeps a straight face. See the Uluwatu route.

Land on a clifftop and ask on the ground

A flat grass plateau, an arch of flowers, a path of petals, and a photographer behind a tree. The helicopter shuts down 40 metres away so it is quiet when you kneel. This is the Landing package, and the site is agreed days before.

Friends and family waiting at the villa

Fly in as a couple and land on the lawn of a villa where your people wait. This needs an approved pad at the villa; read how landing at a villa works first.

Morning ask above the Ubud rice terraces

Not a sunset person? A 07:30 flight over the Tegalalang terraces and the Ayung river gives soft light and no crowds. The Ubud flight runs 12 minutes and starts at $500 for the whole helicopter.

How the Classic Golden-Hour Proposal Runs

Times are relative to sunset, because flights end by sunset. Sunset in Bali falls at about 18:05 in June and about 18:40 in late December.

We pick the slot from the sunset time and the forecast

For golden hour we count back from sunset. For a landing we also check wind and the site, and offer a back-up day.

Agree the signal and the spot

Where on the route you will ask, who carries the camera, who holds the bouquet, and what the pilot should say when you do.

A deposit holds the slot

Payment details come with the quote. Nothing is paid through this website.

The weather call is the pilot's

If rain, low cloud or wind make the flight unsafe, we move it to the next suitable day or refund the part that was not flown.

Before you fly

What to Bring, and What a Helicopter Can't Do

Keep the ring box zipped in a pocket. Loose items can leave a cabin during boarding. Take it out only when you ask.
Use a wrist strap for your phone. Photos are taken through the window glass; windows stay shut in flight.
Wear light clothes, flat shoes, no hat. Rotor wash on the pad will take a hat and a long veil or scarf.
Tell us your weights. Combined weight decides the aircraft class, especially if friends come along.
Skip the cork pop in the cabin. Sparkling wine is served on landing. A cork in a cockpit is a safety problem.

Timing

Best Date and How Far Ahead to Book

April to October is the dry season, with the clearest coastline light, and the Bukit cliffs glow orange in the last hour before sunset. In the wet season (November to March) showers cluster in the afternoon, so we keep a back-up day and sometimes move the flight to the morning.

For the Classic package, two to four days ahead is enough on a normal date. For a landing package book a week ahead so the site, the photographer and the set-up can be confirmed. In July, August and over Christmas and New Year, golden-hour slots go first: plan ten to fourteen days ahead.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a helicopter proposal cost in Bali?

The Classic package is $950: an 18-minute golden-hour flight with a bouquet and sparkling wine. The Landing package is $2,500 and the Grand package $3,400. Prices are for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests.

Can we land somewhere private to propose?

Yes, at an approved site: a private clifftop, beach or villa lawn where the owner agrees and the operator has cleared the landing. We confirm the exact spot and a back-up before you pay. Landings on public beaches or temple grounds are not offered.

Will my partner find out before the day?

No. We message only you, and the booking looks like an ordinary scenic flight. Tell us if your partner uses your phone, and we will use a neutral message tag.

What happens if it rains or the cloud is low?

The pilot decides on the day. We move the proposal to the next suitable slot, often the next morning or evening, or refund the part that was not flown.

Can friends or family come on the flight?

Yes, up to 4 guests in the standard class, so you, your partner and two friends. A larger class takes 6. Friends can also wait at the landing site if the site has space.

Can we do it at sunrise instead of sunset?

Flights run from sunrise, but the best light and the clearest air are from about 07:00. A morning Ubud or Bukit flight works well for a proposal and has fewer people at the landing site.

Is a photographer included?

A photographer on the ground is an add-on at $250 and is included in the Landing and Grand packages. In the cabin there is no room for a second camera person, so you shoot with a phone or a small camera on a strap.
