How to Plan a Helicopter Proposal in Bali, Step by Step

To plan a helicopter proposal in Bali, decide whether you will ask in the air or on the ground, fix a date and time from the sunset time, agree a signal with the crew and keep the ring zipped in a pocket. A golden-hour flight with a bouquet and sparkling wine is $950; a clifftop landing with a photographer is $2,500. Below you get the six steps, five ideas, a timeline, a checklist and what can go wrong. Start on WhatsApp with your date and your partner hears nothing.

The plan

How to Plan a Helicopter Proposal in Bali in Six Steps

The full packages and their prices are on the helicopter proposal page. This guide is the planning side: the choices you make before you message us.

1. Decide: ask in the air or on the ground

In the air is shorter, simpler and cheaper: the Classic package is $950 for an 18-minute golden-hour flight. On the ground needs an approved landing site, a set-up and ideally a photographer, and starts at $2,500. If you are unsure, the air version is the easier first plan and the ground version can be added later.

2. Test whether your partner would enjoy a helicopter

Ask yourself four things. Do they like heights? Are they sensitive to noise or motion? Do they dislike surprises in public? Would they rather be photographed than surprised? If any answer is a no, ask a friend who knows them well, or choose a ground proposal.

3. Pick the date and the hour from sunset

Flights end by sunset, about 18:05 in June and 18:40 in late December. A golden-hour take-off is 20–30 minutes before that. Pick a date with a spare evening on either side. Our best-time guide has the month-by-month view.

4. Choose the spot

Along the cliffs at Uluwatu, over the Tanah Lot rock, over the Tegalalang rice terraces, or on a quiet clifftop or lawn. Landing sites need the owner's agreement and the operator's clearance; read can a helicopter land at my villa if the site is private.

5. Write the signal and the script

Where on the route you will ask, what card or words you will use, who holds the camera, and what the pilot says when you do. Everyone in the cabin hears everyone else through the headsets, so plan the words with that in mind.

6. Send the brief and confirm 48 hours ahead

Send date, guests, hotel area and the idea. We reply with the aircraft, the pad, the time and a fixed price. A deposit holds the slot, and the day before the pilot checks wind and cloud and we confirm the pick-up time.

Ideas

Five Proposal Ideas, From Simple to Elaborate

Each idea works for two guests and fits within a 4-seat class. Prices are guide prices for the whole helicopter, with extras included where the package says so.

Ask above the Uluwatu cliffs

Classic package $950

Fly the 18-minute Bukit coast at golden hour. As the temple on its sea cliff slides under the window, hold up a card with the question. The ring box stays zipped in a pocket until you ask, and the bouquet and sparkling wine wait on the pad.

Land on a clifftop and ask on grass

Landing package $2,500

The helicopter puts down on an approved flat site and the rotor stops before you step out. An arch of flowers, a short path, a photographer behind a bush. You kneel in a quiet place, with only the sea making noise.

Fly in to friends and family

Site by quote

Land on the lawn of a villa where your people wait with a speech and a cake. This works only with an approved pad and neighbours who know. Plan the site first and the flight second.

Ask over the Tegalalang terraces

Flight from $500

A 12-minute morning flight in soft light, with the Ayung river gorge on the way. Good for partners who prefer green to cliffs. Add the bouquet and sparkling wine for the landing.

Land, then ask over a clifftop dinner

Picnic landing $2,350

Fly to a private clifftop, land, and sit down to a table set for two. You ask over the second course, not in the noise of the landing. The picnic version has its own page.

Timeline

A Planning Timeline, From Four Weeks to the Day

You do not need four weeks, but the earlier dates show the order of decisions. On an ordinary date two to four days ahead is enough for the Classic package.

  • Settle the idea and the budgetAir or ground, the number of guests, any add-on such as a photographer at $250. Check that your partner has no fear of flying.
  • Send the briefFor July, August and Christmas to New Year, golden-hour slots go first, so contact us ten to fourteen days ahead. Landing packages need about a week to confirm the site and the set-up.
  • Agree the site, the back-up and the signalWe confirm the pad, the landing site and a back-up day. You choose the card or words, and who holds the camera.
  • Confirm weights and pick-upSend approximate weights for everyone on board. We confirm the aircraft class and the pick-up time.
  • Arrive at the padGround crew take the bags. Your partner sees a normal scenic flight. The flowers and sparkling wine are already with the crew.
  • Lift-offThe pilot briefs you, fits headsets and takes off along the coast. The ask happens in the middle third of the flight, not at the start.
  • Land and celebrateThe rotor stops, the bouquet and sparkling wine appear, and the photographer takes the first pictures.

Proposal Checklist: Ten Things to Settle

  • Ring in a zipped pocket. Not in a bag and not in your hand during boarding. Wind from the rotor takes loose things.
  • A card for the question. Cabin noise is constant, and a card is clear even if a few words get lost.
  • Tell us your partner's name and the phone situation. If they use your phone, we use a neutral message tag.
  • Weights and bags. Combined weight picks the aircraft class, especially when friends join.
  • Outfit. Light clothes, flat shoes, no hat, and a veil or scarf held down or left off. Read what to wear.
  • Phone on a wrist strap. Photos go through the window, and windows stay shut in flight.
  • A back-up date. The pilot can say no on the day. Hold a second evening if you can.
  • A driver for the Bukit road. Traffic from Canggu to Uluwatu can take 1.25 to 2 hours, so book a car and leave early.
  • Photographer position. Agree where they stand and which direction the sun is.
  • Who knows. Tell as few people as possible. One leak is enough.

Secrecy

Keeping It a Secret Until the Moment

Most proposals leak through a phone, a calendar or a friend. Message us from your own phone and tell us if your partner can see it; we reply to you only and use a neutral tag. The booking reads like an ordinary scenic flight: date, two guests and a route.

Choose a cover story that is true. "A scenic flight for our last evening" works because it is exactly what the booking looks like. Hold back the bouquet and sparkling wine, which stay with the crew until you land. If your partner asks why you are sending weights, say the helicopter needs them, which is true.

When you are ready, send us your date and idea through the proposal service page, or compare the sunset slot on the golden-hour flight page. The honeymoon flight is a good follow-up for the days after.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book a helicopter proposal in Bali?

Two to four days is enough for the Classic golden-hour package on an ordinary date. A landing package needs about a week to confirm the site, the set-up and the photographer. In July, August and Christmas to New Year, plan ten to fourteen days ahead.

How much does a helicopter proposal in Bali cost?

The Classic package is $950 for an 18-minute golden-hour flight with a bouquet and sparkling wine. Add a clifftop landing and a photographer and it becomes the Landing package at $2,500; the Grand package, with a drone, is $3,400. All prices are for the whole helicopter.

Can I propose in the helicopter, or only on the ground?

Both work. In the air you use headsets and usually a card; keep the ring box zipped until you ask, then take it out slowly. On the ground you land at an approved site and ask on grass or a clifftop, with the rotor stopped.

What should I say to the pilot beforehand?

Tell us the place on the route, the signal and any words you want the pilot to say. We pass it on to the operator. Remember the pilot hears the cabin through the headset.

What if my partner is afraid of flying?

Do not surprise them with a helicopter. Choose a ground proposal that does not need a flight, or ask a friend whether they would enjoy it. A short 12-minute flight over land is the gentlest first step.

Can friends or family join the flight?

Yes, up to 4 guests in the standard class and up to 6 in the larger one. Friends can also wait at the landing site if it has space; the site is agreed in advance.

Plan the Proposal in Secret: Send the Date

Tell us the date, the idea and whether you want to ask in the air or on the ground. We reply only to you, the same day, with the aircraft, the slot and a fixed price. Nothing is paid on this site.
