Uluwatu Helicopter Tour
18 minutes along the Bukit cliffs: Uluwatu Temple, the Suluban and Padang Padang surf breaks, Bingin and Balangan, then Jimbaran Bay.

A sunset helicopter flight in Bali takes off in warm, low light and lands as the sun reaches the horizon. The 18-minute flight is $750 and the 30-minute flight is $1,250, for the whole helicopter and up to 4 guests. Flights are daylight-only, so lift-off is 20 to 30 minutes before sunset. Send your date and hotel area on WhatsApp and we fix the lift-off time to the minute.
Both flights leave from the Bukit pad and are priced for the whole helicopter, with the pilot and fuel included. The lift-off time is counted back from the sunset time on your date.
| Flight | Lift-off | What you fly | Whole helicopter | Per guest, 4 sharing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 minutes | About 20 min before sunset | A direct run to Uluwatu and back, with one slow pass of the temple cliff and the Padang Padang coast | $750 | $190 |
| 30 minutes | About 30 min before sunset | The Uluwatu cliff, then north along Jimbaran Bay toward the Kuta beach line before the turn home | $1,250 | $315 |
Guide prices for up to 4 guests. A 6-seat helicopter costs about 1.4 times as much. A longer or different golden-hour route is priced by the hour; see helicopter charter by the hour.
Tourist helicopters in Bali fly under day visual flight rules: sunrise to sunset, with the pilot able to see the ground and the horizon. Some sellers skip over the consequence. No helicopter we book takes off after sunset, and the glow in the sky after the sun has gone is not flown.
A sunset flight here is therefore a golden-hour flight timed to end at sunset. You lift off while the light is low and warm, you spend the flight with the sun sinking toward the sea, and you touch down at about the moment it reaches the horizon, give or take a few minutes. If you want to watch the sky go dark, you do it from the ground, with sparkling wine if you ordered it.
| Season | Sunset | Lift-off, 18-min flight | Lift-off, 30-min flight |
|---|---|---|---|
| June–July | About 18:05 | About 17:45 | About 17:35 |
| Late December | About 18:40 | About 18:20 | About 18:10 |
Bali is on WITA (UTC+8) with no daylight saving, so these times hold all year. The months between fall between the two rows.
You land at about sunset and still need to get from the pad to your table. Book dinner for 60 to 90 minutes after sunset, not for sunset itself.
There are no night flights in our programme. If a seller offers you a flight after dark, ask which operator flies it and under what approval.
The sun goes down over open sea along Bali's whole west coast. In June it sets a little north of due west and in December a little south of it, so the line of colour shifts along the coast through the year.
The white limestone takes the colour, and Uluwatu Temple stands on a sea cliff about 70 m high with the surf breaks of Suluban and Padang Padang along the same coast. On the ground the temple fills before the kecak dance at sunset; from the air you have the whole cliff in view. See the Uluwatu helicopter tour.
A long bay that faces west, with seafood cafés laid out along the sand. The 30-minute flight includes it, and the sea turns copper in the final minutes. Read about flying from Jimbaran.
Rice fields between villas, surf beaches and the sea temple of Tanah Lot on its rock. It is 23 km from the Bukit pad, 11–15 min each way, so on a 30-minute flight it is a pass, not a long look. The Tanah Lot tour covers the coast in more detail.
These coasts face east, away from the sunset, so the sun is behind you and the light is soft and sideways over the water toward Nusa Penida. Pretty, but not the postcard shot of the sun on the sea. If that is what you want, choose the west coast.
Times are relative to sunset, which is what the pilot flies to.
The two best windows of the day give different pictures. A golden-hour flight costs more than a daytime flight of the same length, because every guest wants the same half hour: $750 for 18 minutes, against $650 for the daytime 18-minute flight.
| Golden hour (last hour before sunset) | Morning (07:00–10:00) | |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Low, warm, side-lit coast | Soft and clear |
| Best targets | Cliffs, beaches, Uluwatu Temple, the west coast | Volcanoes, the Ubud terraces, the Ayung gorge |
| Cloud | Mountain cloud has often built by then, so the coast is the safer choice | Volcanoes are usually clear before cloud builds from late morning |
| Crowds on the ground | Busy at the temples and beaches | Quiet |
| Sparkling wine on landing | Natural fit | Possible, but less usual |
Not sure which fits your trip? The best time for a helicopter flight in Bali guide goes through each month.
April to October is the dry season and the clearest for a golden-hour helicopter flight in Bali. The sunset falls earliest in June, at about 18:05, which leaves a long evening for dinner after landing. From November to March showers cluster in the afternoon, but many evenings clear over the sea in time. We keep a back-up evening in the plan and the pilot makes the final call.
For a normal week, book two to four days ahead. In July, August and from Christmas to New Year the golden-hour slots go first, so ask ten to fourteen days ahead. Slots are limited because every guest wants the same half hour.
Planning a surprise? The same flight with a bouquet and sparkling wine is the helicopter proposal from $950, and the honeymoon flight adds a longer route. A ground photographer is $250 if you want pictures of the landing.
Say whether you want 18 or 30 minutes. If you are not sure, we suggest one from the number of guests and the sunset time on your date.
The reply gives the pad, the aircraft class, the lift-off time counted back from sunset and a fixed price.
You pay the deposit using the details in the quote. The website never takes a payment.
The pilot decides. If cloud or wind make the flight unsafe, we move it to the next evening or refund the part that was not flown.
No. Our flights are day-only, from sunrise to sunset. A sunset flight is timed to land at about sunset, with lift-off 20 to 30 minutes earlier, so you fly in golden-hour light but not in the dark.
The 18-minute flight is $750 and the 30-minute flight is $1,250, for the whole helicopter with up to 4 guests. That is $190 and $315 each for four people.
We work back from the sunset time on your date: about 18:05 in June and about 18:40 in late December. For example, an 18-minute flight in June lifts off at about 17:45. The exact time is in your quote.
In the last minutes of the flight the sun is at or near the horizon, and you land at about that moment. The deep colour comes just as you come down, so plan to watch the last of it from the pad, glass in hand.
The pilot checks the weather and the western horizon. Heavy cloud mutes the colour, so we offer the next evening or refund the part that was not flown. Cloud over the mountains does not matter much, because the route stays on the coast.
Yes. Sparkling wine is $120, a bouquet $60 and a photographer on the ground $250. The wine is opened after landing, never in the air.
Up to 4 guests in the standard class and up to 6 in the larger class, which costs about 1.4 times as much. For 7 or 8 guests we use two helicopters. Send us rough weights when you book.
Tell us the date, how many guests and where you are staying. We reply today with the lift-off time counted back from sunset, the aircraft and a fixed price.
