Sunset Helicopter Flight
A golden-hour flight over the Bukit cliffs that lands at sunset. 18 or 30 minutes, whole helicopter, up to 4 guests.

The viewing terraces at Tanah Lot fill before sunset. A helicopter holds up to 4 guests and has no queue. The Tanah Lot helicopter tour takes 18 minutes: the sea temple on its rock, the black-sand beaches of Canggu and the Seminyak coastline, from $650 by day or $750 for a flight timed to end at sunset. Send the date and your area on WhatsApp, and we confirm the pad and the take-off time.
The route is the same. What changes is the clock. Both prices are for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, and include the pilot and fuel.

The sun sets over the Indian Ocean to the west, a little south of due west around December and a little north of it around June. The west coast runs roughly north to south, so on the way up the coast the sun is on your left, over the sea. Left-hand seats look toward the glow on the water and see the temple as a dark shape against it. Right-hand seats look at the land, where the low light turns roofs, rice fields and the surf coast gold.
On the way back the sides swap. The pilot decides the direction from wind and traffic, so treat the sides as a guide and ask at the briefing. Every seat sees both pictures during a turn.
Expose for the sky and accept that the temple becomes a silhouette. If you want colour on the rock itself, shoot while the sun is behind your shoulder. You shoot through the window glass, so hold the phone close without letting it touch. More in our photography tips.
Every flight ends by sunset, because there are no night flights. Sunset comes at about 18:05 in June and about 18:40 at the end of December.
| Season | Sunset | Take-off for the 18-minute flight |
|---|---|---|
| June and July | about 18:05 | about 17:35–17:45 |
| Late December | about 18:40 | about 18:10–18:20 |
| Months in between | between those times | we calculate it for your date |
Cloud on the western horizon is common in the wet season, November to March, and it can mute the colour. We watch the forecast the day before and say if another evening looks better.
Marks are approximate and assume a lift-off near the Kuta to Canggu belt. The flight runs north first, then returns on an inland line. It works as a west Bali helicopter flight and a Canggu helicopter tour in one.
A long, straight beach with the surf line running parallel to it. Further north the Seminyak beach clubs sit in a row, and the sea temple at Petitenget is a small square of walls just behind the sand. Late in the day the sand fills with people waiting for the sunset.
Black sand and volcanic grey rock replace the pale beaches of the south. Rice fields squeeze between villas and cafés, and the break at Batu Bolong and the headland at Echo Beach are easy to spot by the lines of surfers. Pererenan is the last stretch before the temple.
The 16th-century temple stands on a rock outcrop just off the shore. The pilot circles it at a respectful height and distance. Look for the path down to the rock, the waves breaking on the black stone and, next to it, the smaller Batu Bolong rock temple with its natural arch. It is not the same place as Batu Bolong beach in Canggu.
The return runs inland, over the paddies between Canggu and Seminyak, with the sun low on your right. The fields glow and the villa roofs throw long shadows. The pad appears as the light reaches its warmest.
The Bukit is where most south Bali flights start. From there Tanah Lot is 23 km away in a straight line, and our planning figure for that one leg is 11–15 min. An 18-minute flight from the Bukit would be mostly transit, with little time at the temple.
So we plan this tour from the nearest approved pad on the west side where one is available, and the quote names it before you pay. If the best pad that day is on the Bukit, we say so and suggest the Uluwatu flight at the same price, or the 30-minute version of the west coast at $1,150, which leaves proper time at the temple.
Temples are working places of worship, and ceremonies take place at Tanah Lot. Pilots keep to a respectful height and distance, and a ceremony on the ground can change the line we fly. The pick-up page for Tanah Lot and Tabanan and the Canggu page show how the area works for hotel and villa pick-ups.
| Tour | Minutes | From | Choose it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uluwatu cliffs | 18 | $650 | You want limestone cliffs, a cliff temple and surf breaks |
| GWK and Bukit | 12 | $450 | A short flight at a lower price |
| Ubud terraces | 12 | $500 | Green terraces, best in the morning |
| Nusa Penida | 30 | $1,150 | Big sea cliffs across the strait |
| Grand circle | 60 | $2,300 | Tanah Lot as the last stop of a whole-island flight |
| Sunset flight service | 18 or 30 | $750 | The golden-hour flight on any route, including a proposal |
Seminyak and Canggu are close to the route. The drive from the airport to Seminyak is about 25–45 minutes, to Canggu 45–75 and to Tanah Lot 60–90.
You get the pad, the aircraft class, the arrival time and a fixed price. Arrive at least 20 minutes before take-off.
A deposit holds the slot, paid as the quote explains. The day before, we check the forecast and confirm.
If wind or cloud makes the flight unsafe, we move it to the next suitable evening or refund the part that was not flown. A flat sky alone is not a safety reason, and colour cannot be promised.
$650 by day and $750 for the golden-hour flight, both for the whole helicopter and up to 4 guests. For four that is $165 and $190 each.
No. Temple grounds and public beaches are not landing sites. The flight circles the temple at a respectful height and distance, and lands back at the pad.
Take off 20–30 minutes before sunset, so the flight ends as the sun reaches the horizon. That is about 17:35–17:45 in June and July and about 18:10–18:20 in late December. For a clear, calm daytime view choose 07:00 to 10:00.
Heading north the sun is on the left, over the sea, and the land is on the right. The pilot may reverse the loop, and every seat sees both views in the turns. Tell us who wants which side when you book.
Yes. The route runs up the Seminyak and Canggu coast to the temple and returns inland. Details of each stretch are in the table above. For a longer flight, the 60-minute grand circle includes Tanah Lot and the coast.
We cannot promise colour. We look at the forecast the day before and say if another evening looks better. If the pilot judges the flight unsafe, we move it or refund the part that was not flown.
Often. Wet-season mornings are usually clear, and a short break in the clouds at the horizon can give strong colour. Read the best-time guide for months and hours.
Send the evening you want, how many are flying and where you stay. We work out the take-off from sunset and reply with the pad and a fixed price.
