Bali to Nusa Penida by Helicopter
From the Bukit pad to an approved site on Penida in 14–20 min, with Kelingking and Crystal Bay in view on the way.

Visitors reach Kelingking from above, standing on the rim. This Nusa Penida helicopter tour is a Kelingking helicopter flight that shows the cliff from the side and as a whole: the "T-Rex" headland, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong and Crystal Bay, over a 30-minute loop from the Bukit. The whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, is $1,150. This is a flight over the island, not a landing on it. Send your date and hotel area on WhatsApp and we reply today.
The price is for the whole helicopter, with the pilot and fuel included. It covers a loop from the Bukit across the channel, along the west coast of Nusa Penida and home.
| Flight | Whole helicopter | Each for 2 / 4 guests | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Penida loop, 30 min | $1,150 | $575 / $290 | Crossing, the west coast and the south-west tip |
| Longer loop, 45 min | $1,700 | $850 / $425 | More time on the cliffs, and a run toward the south-east coast, where Diamond Beach is |
| Add: sparkling wine on landing | $120 | – | Opened on the ground at the Bukit pad |
Rupiah guide price for the 30-minute loop: about Rp 20,500,000. Five or six guests fly in the 6-seat class, roughly 1.4 times the 4-seat rate. For how guide prices are built see the price page.
Minute marks are approximate and count from a lift-off on the Bukit near Ungasan. The pilot may fly the island part in either direction, which swaps the sides.
Crystal Bay is 32 km from the Bukit in a straight line. At cruise speeds of about 205 to 250 km/h, plus climb-out and approach, that is roughly 9 to 11 minutes each way. So about 20 of the 30 minutes are crossing, and about 10 are spent along the cliffs. That is why the loop concentrates on the west and south-west coast, where the best-known sights are close together. If a pad nearer the strait is approved for your date, the crossing is shorter and the time on the cliffs longer; the quote tells you.
Three ways to see Nusa Penida, with what each does and what it costs in time.
| Option | Time | What you see | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helicopter loop (this page) | 30 min in the air | Four or five well-known sights in one pass, seen from the side | No landing, and about 20 of the 30 minutes are the crossing |
| Fast boat day trip from Sanur | About 30–45 min each way by boat, plus road time | Viewpoints and beaches at ground level, with time to swim | Island roads are slow, so day trips often reach only a few sights |
| Helicopter transfer with a landing | 14–20 min in the air | Whatever your approved landing site offers | Needs an approved site; one-way from $1,300 |
A landing is a transfer, not a scenic tour. Read Bali to Nusa Penida by helicopter and the Nusa Penida island guide if you want to land.
This tour does not land on the island. Public beaches, viewpoints, clifftops and temple grounds are not landing sites, and we do not offer a landing at Kelingking. A landing is possible only at an approved site: a resort pad, or private land where the owner agrees and the operator has cleared the landing. We confirm the exact site before you pay.
If you want to step onto the island, ask for the transfer instead and name your hotel or beach club. We check the site first. If it cannot be cleared, the scenic loop is the alternative.
Part of the flight is open sea. Ask the operator in the quote what the aircraft carries for the crossing, for example life jackets or flotation, and read what to ask an operator before you pay.
Manta Bay is named for the manta rays that feed offshore. From the air you are unlikely to pick one out, so do not book for them. The sea itself is the show: the shelves of reef, the deep blue beyond and the white lines where swell hits the cliffs.
These are transfers, not scenic loops. They show how the crossing compares with the 30-minute tour.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystal Bay | 32 km | 13–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Nusa Penida | 34 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Nusa Lembongan | 34 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
Straight-line distance and airborne minutes by our planning figures, which are cautious and include routing. The scenic loop is planned at cruise speed, so its crossing is shorter than these transfer figures. One-way prices include the helicopter's flight back; the scenic loop is priced as a flight, not as a transfer.
Penida by helicopter is best flown between 07:00 and 10:00, when the sea is calmest and the air clearest. Later in the day the wind picks up in the channel, which adds a little bump on the crossing and chop on the water. The west-facing cliffs hold sun well from late morning, so ask for 09:30 or 10:00 if colour on the rock matters more than a glassy sea.
April to October is the dry season, with the clearest bays. From November to March haze and showers are likelier in the afternoon, so mornings are the safer slot. July, August and Christmas to New Year fill up first. The best-time guide lists hours and months. You shoot through the glass; the photography tips explain how to avoid reflections.
| Tour | Minutes | From | Choose it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Batur | 30 | $1,150 | Same price and length, but a volcano and a crater lake |
| Uluwatu cliffs | 18 | $650 | Cliffs and surf breaks without a sea crossing |
| GWK and Bukit | 12 | $450 | A short first flight |
| Tanah Lot | 18 | $650 | A sea temple and the west coast |
| Grand circle | 60 | $2,300 | The island's mountains, terraces and coasts, though not Penida |
Send the date, guests and hotel area, and tell us whether you want only a flight over the island or a landing.
The quote names the pad, the class and the time, with a fixed price. Morning slots are offered first.
The deposit is paid by the method in the quote, never on this site.
If wind or cloud makes the crossing unsafe, the flight moves or the unflown part is refunded.
$1,150 for the whole helicopter, about Rp 20,500,000, for a 30-minute loop with up to 4 guests. That is $290 each for four and $575 each for two. A 45-minute loop is $1,700.
Not on beaches, clifftops, viewpoints or temple grounds. A landing needs an approved site, such as a resort pad or private land where the owner agrees. Ask for a transfer and name the place, and we check it. This scenic tour is a flight loop only.
About 10 minutes of the 30. The channel crossing takes roughly 9 to 11 minutes each way. If you want more time on the cliffs, the longer loop at $1,700 adds it.
Usually not. Diamond Beach is on the far south-east coast, and the 30-minute loop stays on the west and south-west. Ask for the 45-minute loop if it matters, and the pilot confirms what wind allows.
Flights run only when the pilot is satisfied with wind, visibility and sea state. Ask the operator what the aircraft carries for the crossing and for its licence number. Our guide on what to ask an operator lists the questions.
Between 07:00 and 10:00 the air is clearest and the sea calmest. Late morning gives more sun on the west-facing cliffs. Afternoons carry more wind and, from November to March, showers.
They do different jobs. The boat gives you the beaches and swim stops, and the fast boat from Sanur takes about 30 to 45 minutes. The helicopter shows four or five famous sights in half an hour and does not land. Many guests do the flight on a different day from the boat trip.
Tell us the date, how many are flying, where you stay and whether you want a flight or a landing. We answer with the pad, the aircraft class and a fixed price.
