Mount Batur Helicopter Tour
30 minutes over the Batur caldera, its crater lake and the Kintamani rim, with the Tegalalang terraces on the way. Mornings, in clear air.

This 60-minute Bali helicopter tour circles most of the island on one take-off: Mount Batur and its crater lake, the UNESCO-listed Jatiluwih rice terraces, the sea temple at Tanah Lot and the south coast on the way home. The whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, is $2,300, which is $575 each for four. A 75-minute version at $2,850 adds a landing at an approved site. Send the date and your hotel area on WhatsApp.
The price covers the whole helicopter, the pilot and the fuel. It does not rise with the number of guests until you outgrow the 4-seat class, so a full cabin is the efficient way to fly an hour.
| Flight | Whole helicopter | Each for 2 | Each for 3 | Each for 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grand circle, 60 min | $2,300 | $1,150 | $770 | $575 |
| Circle with an approved landing, 75 min | $2,850 | $1,425 | $950 | $715 |
| Shorter option, 45 min | $1,700 | $850 | $570 | $425 |
Rupiah guide price for the 60-minute flight: about Rp 41,100,000. Five or six guests need the 6-seat class at about 1.4 times the 4-seat rate. Seven or eight need two helicopters; see group flights for 6 to 8 people. How guide prices are built: price page.
This Bali island circuit by helicopter runs about an hour. Marks are approximate and assume a lift-off on the Bukit. Straight-line legs: Ubud to Batur 32 km, Batur to Jatiluwih 30 km, Jatiluwih to Tanah Lot 28 km. The pilot may fly the loop the other way round depending on wind and cloud.
These are one-way figures to each stop from the Ungasan area, to show why the circle needs a full hour.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ubud | 35 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Mount Batur | 67 km | 20–30 min | from $1,900 |
| Bedugul | 60 km | 20–30 min | from $1,900 |
| Jatiluwih | 49 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Tanah Lot | 23 km | 11–15 min | from $1,000 |
Straight-line distance and cautious airborne planning figures for single legs. The circle is a continuous loop flown at cruise speed, so its legs do not add up as out-and-back trips. One-way prices include the helicopter's flight back and apply to transfers, not to the scenic circle.
The flight spends about 12 minutes here. Look for dark lava fields running toward the lake, the rim ridge and the Kintamani road. The Mount Batur page explains the cloud pattern and the volcano checks, which apply to this flight too.
A Jatiluwih helicopter flight is the reason to choose the hour. The terraces step down the slope in hundreds of curved plots, fed by the traditional subak irrigation system that UNESCO recognised in 2012. Neighbouring plots are at different stages of the crop, so green, gold and silver flooded fields sit side by side. The greenest weeks tend to come in the wet season, November to March, and the clearest air from April to October.
The sea temple, the Canggu beaches and the Seminyak strip come last, when the morning sun has climbed and the sea has turned from silver to blue. For a flight built only around this stretch and the evening light, see the Tanah Lot flight.
As a long helicopter tour Bali offers, the circle covers what several shorter tours would, with one briefing, one take-off and one pick-up.
| Instead of | Minutes | From | What the circle adds or drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Batur | 30 | $1,150 | Adds Jatiluwih, Tanah Lot and the south coast |
| Ubud terraces | 12 | $500 | Includes the Tegalalang terraces as one leg |
| Tanah Lot and west coast | 18 | $650 | Includes the same coast as the last leg |
| Uluwatu cliffs | 18 | $650 | Does not fly the full Uluwatu cliff line |
| Nusa Penida | 30 | $1,150 | Does not cross the strait to Penida |
| GWK and Bukit | 12 | $450 | Does not fly the Bukit cliff coast, only the last approach |
For sample itineraries that combine tours, see the route guide.
The 75-minute flight at $2,850 keeps the circle and adds a stop at an approved site. The landing is short: enough to step out, look at the view, take photos and fly on. Typical sites are a resort pad or private land where the owner agrees and the operator has cleared the landing. The site is named before you pay.
What a landing cannot be: the Jatiluwih terraces, a temple's grounds, a public beach or inside a national park. Those are not offered. A ground photographer ($250) or a styled set-up ($350) can be added where the site allows it, and the landing page explains how approval works.
If a longer stop with food is what you want, the helicopter picnic is built for it.
Send the date, guests and hotel area. Say whether you want the landing version. If you know weights, add them, because an hour of fuel makes weights matter more.
We suggest 07:00 to 08:00. Batur is flown early, while the cone is clear, and the highlands are crossed before cloud builds.
The quote names the pad, the aircraft class and the meeting time. Request the operator's name and licence number with it.
Pay the deposit as the quote explains. We re-check cloud and volcano notices the evening before and on the morning of the flight.
$2,300 for the whole helicopter, about Rp 41,100,000, with up to 4 guests. Four share it at $575 each, and two at $1,150 each. The 75-minute version with a landing is $2,850.
Ubud and the Tegalalang terraces, Mount Batur with Lake Batur, the Bedugul side, the Jatiluwih terraces, Tanah Lot, the west coast and the Bukit. The pilot adjusts the order to wind and cloud, and the route can be swapped on request within airspace and weather limits.
A short landing at an approved site, such as a resort pad or private land where the owner agrees. It costs $2,850. We never land inside temple grounds, on public beaches or in national parks, and we name the site before you pay.
It is long for some. Tell us ages and how people cope with motion, and we may suggest the 30-minute Batur flight first. Everyone wears a headset and can speak to the pilot at any point.
Between 07:00 and 08:00, so Batur is clear and the highlands are crossed before cloud builds. Sunrise falls at about 05:50 in December and 06:35 in June and July, and every flight ends by sunset. See the best-time guide.
Every flight ends by sunset, but the colour is best on the shorter golden-hour routes. For sunset colour see the sunset flight page, which prices 18-minute and 30-minute flights timed to end at sunset.
The circle gives one briefing, one take-off and one pick-up, and the highlands are done early. Separate flights let you split the cost across days and choose different times of day, for example Batur in the morning and Tanah Lot at sunset.
Tell us the date, 60 or 75 minutes, how many are flying and where you stay. The reply gives the pad, the aircraft class and a fixed price, with the landing site named if you chose 75 minutes.
