Bali Helicopter Tour: Which Route Suits Your Group and Your Date

Choosing a Bali helicopter tour comes down to one landmark, one time of day and one budget. Fly Uluwatu if you only fly once, Ubud for green terraces before 10:00, Batur for a volcano in morning light, Tanah Lot for a west-coast sunset, Penida for turquoise water, and the grand circle for a full hour. Prices run from $450 for 12 minutes to $2,300 for 60, always for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests. Send your date and guest count on WhatsApp and we confirm the route the same day.

Short answer

Which Bali Helicopter Tour Route to Choose: The Short Answer

Book the Uluwatu tour if you only fly once. It is 18 minutes along the Bukit cliffs for $650, it works in every season, and it packs the most variety into one flight: white limestone, surf breaks and a temple on a sea cliff. Every other route trades some of that variety for something more specific.

  • Cheapest and shortest: the 12-minute Bukit and GWK flight, $450.
  • Greenest: the 12-minute Ubud flight over rice terraces and the Ayung gorge, $500.
  • Biggest landscape: the 30-minute Mount Batur flight, $1,150, best in the morning.
  • Best for sunsets: the 18-minute Tanah Lot flight, $650 by day or $750 timed to end at sunset.
  • Best for colour: the 30-minute Nusa Penida flight, $1,150, across open water to the Kelingking cliff.
  • Most of Bali in one go: the 60-minute grand circle, $2,300.

Every price covers the whole aircraft with the pilot and fuel. Four guests on the Uluwatu flight pay about $165 each, two guests about $325 each.

Bali Helicopter Tours Compared: Light, Season, Minutes and Price

Minutes are airborne time. Add 15–20 minutes at the pad for the weigh-in, briefing and headsets. Prices are guide prices for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests.

Route by route

What Each Route Gives You, and What It Costs You

Each route has one strong point and one trade-off. Read the trade-off before you pay.

Bukit and GWK, 12 minutes

From $450

Three landmarks in a short loop: the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, 121 m tall, the Pandawa cliffs and Uluwatu Temple. The trade-off is time. There is no room to circle, so you see each place once. Good as a first flight with children.

Uluwatu, 18 minutes

From $650

Padang Padang, Bingin and Suluban below the cliff line, then the temple about 70 m above the surf. The trade-off is that it is a coast-only flight, so there are no rice fields or volcanoes.

Ubud, 12 minutes

From $500

The Tegalalang terraces, the Campuhan ridge and the Ayung river gorge. It feels the calmest because you stay over land. The trade-off is weather: cloud builds over the hills from late morning, so book early.

Mount Batur, 30 minutes

From $1,150

The 1,717 m cone inside its caldera, Lake Batur and, on a clear day, Mount Agung at 3,031 m. The trade-off is distance from the south coast and cloud that closes in by late morning. Volcano alerts can also change the route.

Tanah Lot, 18 minutes

From $650

The 16th-century sea temple on its rock, black-sand beaches and the rice fields between the Canggu villas. It faces the sunset, which is why golden hour is the slot. The trade-off is horizon haze on some evenings.

Nusa Penida, 30 minutes

From $1,150

Open water, then the Kelingking cliff and the coves near Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach. The trade-off is the sea crossing: strong wind can shorten or move the flight, and the pilot decides on the day.

Grand circle, 60 minutes

From $2,300

A long loop through the volcano country and the central terraces such as Jatiluwih, with a coast section. The trade-off is price and duration: an hour in a cabin is a lot for young children. The exact loop is written in the quote.

Light and season

Match the Route to the Light and the Season

Inland routes belong to the morning. Mountain cloud builds from late morning and is thickest in the wet season (November to March), so Ubud, Batur and the grand circle are best flown between 07:00 and 10:00, when the volcanoes are usually clear. Coastal routes belong to the end of the day. In the last hour before sunset the Bukit cliffs turn gold and the Tanah Lot rock stands against the sun.

One rule that rarely fails

If you can fly only once, take the morning for any inland route and the last hour before sunset for any coastal one. Midday is the weakest light for both.

Seasons matter less for the coast than for the hills. April to October is the dry season and the clearest, with peak demand in July and August. From November to March showers cluster in the afternoon while mornings are usually fine. If your trip falls in the wet season, choose a morning slot and let us hold a back-up day. For the full picture read the best time for a helicopter flight in Bali.

Sunset runs from about 18:05 in June to about 18:40 in late December. A golden-hour flight takes off 20–30 minutes before it and lands at sunset, because flights run in daylight only. There are no night flights.

Minutes

How Many Minutes Do You Need?

Price rises roughly in step with minutes, so no length is a bargain. Choose by what you want to see.

  • 12 minutes is a taste: three landmarks or one valley, no time to circle.
  • 18 minutes is the balanced length. You can slow for a landmark and still see a full stretch of coast.
  • 30 minutes is the shortest flight that reaches Batur or crosses to Penida with time to look, from $1,150.
  • 45 minutes, $1,700, suits guests who want two landscapes, for example cliffs and terraces.
  • 60 minutes, $2,300, is the grand circle: one long flight with no rush at any point.

Two short flights on one day cost about the same as one long flight and add a second briefing at the pad. If you want two landscapes, book the 45-minute or 60-minute flight instead. The charter page covers hourly bookings if you would rather build your own route.

Choosing

How to Choose in Four Steps

Fix the time of day first

Morning means Ubud, Batur, Penida or the grand circle. Golden hour means Uluwatu or Tanah Lot. The time decides the route more often than the landmark does.

Name the one thing you want to see

A volcano, a temple, a cliff, a rice terrace. Everything else on the route is a bonus. If you name three things, ask about the 45- or 60-minute flights.

Count guests, bags and rough weights

Up to 4 guests flies in the 4-seat class and up to 6 in the larger one. Weight is the limit in Bali heat, so we ask for approximate weights.

Send date, guests and hotel area on WhatsApp

We reply the same day with the aircraft, the pad, the route and a fixed price. A deposit holds the slot. Nothing is paid on this website.

Tell Us the Date and the Landmark

Send two lines on WhatsApp: when you can fly and what you want to see. We suggest one route, a back-up slot and the price for the whole helicopter.

Avoid these

Four Mistakes When Choosing a Route

Booking Batur or Ubud at 15:00. By then cloud often covers the hills, and the flight is worth less than the same flight at 08:00. Move it earlier.

Expecting to land at the landmark. Scenic tours return to the pad. Landings happen only at approved sites, and never on public beaches, in temple grounds or in national parks. If you want to land, ask about the clifftop picnic or the villa and hotel landing.

Stacking two flights in one day. It doubles the price and the pad time. Pick one strong slot.

Ignoring weight. Four adults with bags can exceed what a 4-seat class takes on a hot afternoon. Tell us early and we confirm the right class with the quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best helicopter tour in Bali for a first-time visitor?

The Uluwatu tour: 18 minutes along the Bukit cliffs from $650 for the whole helicopter. It covers the beaches, cliffs and temple in one flight and works in every season. If budget is tight, the 12-minute Bukit flight starts at $450.

Is Ubud or Uluwatu better by helicopter?

Uluwatu is better for sea, cliffs and golden-hour light. Ubud is better for rice terraces, a river gorge and a flight that stays over land. Ubud runs 12 minutes from $500 and is best before 10:00; Uluwatu runs 18 minutes from $650 and works all day.

Which Bali helicopter tour is cheapest?

The 12-minute Bukit flight, from $450 for the whole helicopter. Shared by four guests that is about $115 each, and by two guests about $225 each.

Can I combine two routes in one flight?

Yes, on a longer flight. The 45-minute flight starts at $1,700 and the 60-minute grand circle at $2,300. Tell us the two places and we check whether they fit the minutes, the wind and the daylight.

How much is a Bali helicopter tour for four people?

The price is for the whole helicopter, not per seat. For four guests the Uluwatu flight is about $165 each and the Mount Batur or Penida flight about $290 each. A fifth or sixth guest needs the 6-seat class.

Does the helicopter land during a tour?

No. Scenic tours fly a loop and return to the pad. Landings are a separate booking at an approved site such as a private clifftop or villa lawn, confirmed before you pay.
