Nusa Penida Helicopter Tour
30 minutes across the strait to Nusa Penida: Crystal Bay, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong and the Kelingking cliff, seen from the side.

A helicopter to Nusa Penida crosses from Sanur in 11–15 min, from $1,000 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, and shows Kelingking, Broken Beach and Diamond Beach in one sitting. On the ground those sights are separate drives on steep, narrow roads. We land only on approved resort or private sites, never on a beach, and we confirm the site before you pay.
Nusa Penida is the largest of the three Nusa islands, about 24 km south-east of Sanur across the Badung Strait. Its best-known sights sit on cliff lines far apart: Kelingking, Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong on the west and south-west, Crystal Bay on the west coast, Diamond Beach on the east. Manta Bay lies off the south-west coast, where manta rays gather.
Boats land on the north coast, so every sight is a drive from the harbour. The roads are narrow, steep and in places rough, and between the west-coast viewpoints and Diamond Beach the traffic can be slow. Most day-trippers by road see two or three of the sights, with crowds at the most photographed viewpoint.
From a helicopter the cliff line unrolls in a single sweep. Kelingking's T-Rex headland, the collapsed arch at Broken Beach and the white sand under the Diamond Beach cliffs appear within minutes of each other, with no steps to climb and no queue at the rail. You see the whole island's shape, which no viewpoint on the ground gives you.
| Sight | What it is | On the ground | From the helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kelingking | A headland shaped like a T-Rex above a long white beach | A busy viewpoint, then a very steep path for fit walkers | The whole headland and the water colour below, no queue |
| Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong | A collapsed sea arch and a rock pool beside it | Two short walks; the pool is unsafe in a big swell | Arch and pool in one pass, plus the swell that makes the pool risky |
| Diamond Beach | White sand under limestone cliffs, reached by steps cut into the rock | A long drive from the west-coast sights | The curve of the bay and the cliff face as one picture |
| Crystal Bay | A sheltered bay on the west coast used by boats | A beach day, easy to reach from the harbour | The turquoise shallows against the open water beyond |
| Manta Bay | A dive and snorkel site where manta rays feed | Boat only | Clear water and shadows below on a calm day; sightings are never promised |
We plan the sweep around the light and the cloud on the day; the pilot sets the final height and line.
Sanur is the shortest crossing. The pad is confirmed in the quote, and the numbers below change if the pick-up moves.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nusa Penida | 24 km | 11–15 min | from $1,000 |
| Crystal Bay | 21 km | 11–15 min | from $1,000 |
| Nusa Lembongan | 21 km | 11–15 min | from $1,000 |
Straight-line distance and airborne time; one-way prices include the helicopter's flight back. A same-day return from Sanur to Penida with one hour on the ground is about $1,300, and each extra hour of standby adds $300. More about the Sanur pad: helicopter Sanur.
Guests staying in Uluwatu, Ungasan or Jimbaran start here. The Penida coast comes into view over the open water south of Sanur.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nusa Penida | 34 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Crystal Bay | 32 km | 13–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Nusa Lembongan | 34 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
Guide figures from the Ungasan area. See helicopter Ungasan for how the Bukit pad works.
A landing needs an approved site: a resort or villa lawn, or private open ground where the owner agrees and the operator has cleared the landing. A light helicopter wants a flat area roughly 25–30 m across, clear of loose items, overhead lines and tall trees. Much of Penida is steep limestone and cliff edge, so suitable ground is scarce and the site check is the slow part of the booking.
Kelingking, Diamond Beach and the other public sights are for flying over only. We name the confirmed landing site, if you want one, in the quote before you pay.
Most Penida bookings are sightseeing flights that return to Bali. If you are staying on the island, send the name of your resort and we ask whether it has, or can host, a pad. How private landings are cleared is explained in landing at a villa or hotel.
In an emergency call 112, the national number, and your insurer's 24-hour line first. We can find a helicopter for an urgent same-day non-medical flight. A medical evacuation needs an approved medical crew and the insurer's approval, so we never promise it; read when a helicopter helps in a medical emergency.
A sightseeing loop of the cliff line that returns to Bali. The tour page has the exact route and the minutes over the island.
A one-way flight to an approved site. 11–15 min from Sanur, 14–20 min from the Bukit.
Fly the Penida cliffs, then land on Lembongan for lunch at an approved site. 8–12 min between the two.
A sample plan for a sightseeing flight. Morning is the usual choice: the air is clearer and cloud builds later.
| Way | Time | On the island | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast boat from Sanur | About 30–45 minutes | You need a driver or a scooter; roads are steep and narrow | Fare per person; sea state can delay or cancel departures |
| Boat tour with a driver | A full day | Set stops at the main viewpoints, shared with other groups | Cheapest per person for those who want to touch the beaches |
| Private helicopter, sightseeing | 11–15 min to the coast, then the sweep | No road time at all | $1,000 one-way price; the tour is priced by time in the air |
| Private helicopter, with a landing | 11–15 min each way | A resort or villa on the island, by road from the pad | Needs an approved site; the same-day return with a wait is about $1,300 |
If you want the beach, the boat plus a driver is the realistic way to touch the sand. If you want the coastline and the time, fly. Some guests do both: a boat out, a helicopter back.
April to October is the dry season, with the clearest water and the sharpest cliff edges. November to March is wetter, with showers in the afternoon; mornings are usually fine. Flights run in daylight only, and 07:00 to 10:00 is the best slot.
Penida's west coast lights up in the last hour before sunset, and Crystal Bay is a popular place to watch it from the water. A golden-hour flight can include the island; ask for it when you book the sunset helicopter flight, because the helicopter must land before the sun goes down.
July, August and the Christmas to New Year weeks are the busiest, both for slots and for boats. Swell can delay boats; for a helicopter, wind, low cloud and visibility matter more, and the pilot decides on the day. If the flight cannot go, we reschedule or refund the part not flown.

The quote names the aircraft class, the take-off pad and, if you want to land, the approved Penida site. It is built from the guide prices on the price page.
Deposit instructions arrive with the quote; the site itself never takes money.
Arrive 20 minutes early. The pilot checks weights and bags, fits headsets and briefs you. We confirm the time the day before after checking wind and cloud.
From the Bukit pad to an approved site on Penida in 14–20 min, with Kelingking and Crystal Bay in view on the way.
Over the reef and the seaweed farms to a resort landing on Lembongan, with the Yellow Bridge to Ceningan in view. Site approved before you pay.
Sanur to Gili Trawangan in 30–40 min instead of 2–2.5 hours on a fast boat. Gili landing sites are limited and approved in advance.
11–15 min from Sanur and 14–20 min from the Bukit, in the air. Allow another 15–20 minutes at the pad for the briefing and shutdown. A sightseeing loop of the cliff line adds time over the island.
From $1,000 one-way from Sanur for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, which is about $250 each for four. One-way includes the helicopter's flight back. The sightseeing tour starts at $1,150; see the Penida tour.
No. Public beaches, cliff viewpoints and temple grounds are closed to our landings. You see them from the air on a sightseeing flight, and we land only on an approved resort or private site, confirmed before you pay.
A fast boat from Sanur takes about 30–45 minutes, but you then spend hours on steep, narrow roads between the sights. A helicopter covers the same coast in minutes and returns you to Bali. Boat plus driver is better if you want to swim or walk on the beaches.
Kelingking, Broken Beach with Angel's Billabong, Crystal Bay and Diamond Beach all fit in one sweep, and Manta Bay lies below on the south coast. The exact line follows the wind, the cloud and the pilot's height rules on the day.
Call 112 and your insurer's 24-hour line first. A medical evacuation needs an approved medical crew and the insurer's approval, so we do not promise it. For urgent non-medical flights, such as a missed connection, we find a helicopter the same day where we can.
Tell us where you start, how many guests and whether you want a sightseeing flight or a landing. We reply today with the aircraft, the pad and a fixed price.
