Helicopter Gili Islands
Gili Trawangan, Meno and Air by private helicopter, over the reef or onto an approved site. Landing is limited and checked before you pay.

A Lombok airport to Gili helicopter flight takes 20–25 min to Gili Trawangan. By road you cross most of Lombok to Bangsal harbour first, then wait for a boat. The whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, is $1,750 one-way. Landing sites on the Gilis are limited and need prior approval, so we agree the landing before you book, and give you a back-up on Lombok's north-west coast if the island site is not cleared.
Lombok International Airport is at Praya, in the south-central part of the island. The Gili boats leave from the north-west, at Bangsal harbour. Between the two lies most of Lombok, so a flight that lands at midday often turns into a drive of well over an hour, a wait at the harbour, a boat and a walk or horse-cart ride on a car-free island. Tired guests, small children and heavy bags make each step feel longer.
The helicopter takes the straight line instead: 20–25 min north-west over the plain, the foothills and the coast. This page covers that one leg; for other airport runs see airport helicopter transfers. If you are still in Bali, read Bali to the Gili Islands by helicopter, and for the full set of options see our guide to reaching the Gilis from Bali.
Road and boat times are rough ranges and vary with traffic and with how full the boats are.
| Option | Time on the move | What the day looks like | Cost basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private helicopter | 20–25 min airborne | Met at the airport, soft bags to the helicopter, lift-off, then an approved landing on a Gili or on the north-west coast with a short boat | $1,750 one-way for the whole helicopter, about $440 each for 4 guests |
| Helicopter to the north-west coast, then a boat | 15–20 min airborne, then a short boat | A plan B when no Gili site is cleared: fewer minutes in the air, a boat to finish | $1,350 one-way for the helicopter, plus the boat |
| Private car, then public boat | Roughly 1.5–2 hours by road to Bangsal, then a boat of about 15–30 minutes | Cross most of Lombok, wait at the harbour (public boats can wait to fill), carry bags to the beach | Car fare plus a boat fare per person |
| Shared shuttle, then boat | Longer than a private car, because of pick-up stops | Fixed departures, shared seats, the same boat step at the end | Lowest cost per person |
The helicopter figure is airborne time; add 15–20 minutes for the meeting, weighing of bags and briefing. The shuttle is the cheapest way for one or two people. The helicopter is priced per aircraft, so a group of four pays about $440 each.
A typical order of events. We confirm each point in the quote.
A helicopter lands on an approved site, never on a public beach, in temple grounds or in a national park. On the Gilis that narrows the choice sharply: the islands are small, shoreline plots are built up and the beaches are shared with swimmers, dive boats and horse carts. A usable site is a flat, cleared area of roughly 25–30 m across, no loose items, no overhead lines or tall trees close, with the owner's agreement and the operator's clearance.
That is why the first message matters. Send the name of your stay on Trawangan, Meno or Air (the Gili Islands guide helps you choose). We ask the operator whether a site exists, and you get a yes, a no or the north-west coast alternative before you pay. Approval at a private site can take a few days, so do not leave it to arrival week.
The same limits apply on the flight home. For an early international departure, tell us your flight time and we work back from airport check-in, with a weather buffer. A morning flight from the Gilis to the airport is also the calmest.
Straight-line figures from the airport at Praya to the Gilis and nearby Lombok places.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gili Trawangan | 52 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Gili Meno | 51 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Gili Air | 49 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Senggigi | 39 km | 15–20 min | from $1,350 |
| Mataram | 26 km | 12–20 min | from $1,250 |
| Kuta Lombok | 15 km | 9–15 min | from $950 |
The one-way figures already carry the empty flight home. A same-day return from the airport to Gili Trawangan with a one-hour wait starts at about $2,050, and each extra hour on the ground is $300. The wait only works if the waiting site is approved too. Prices are explained on the price page.
You land from Jakarta or another island at lunchtime and want to be on the beach the same afternoon, not on a minibus.
A hot drive across the island with a tired child is the hardest part of a Gili trip. The 6-seat class, see helicopter classes, takes up to 6 guests with soft bags.
An early flight home from Lombok airport is a real risk when the Gili boat is the first link. A morning helicopter leg to the airport removes that link.
For example: arrival 11:40 on 9 October, 3 adults, 3 soft bags, staying on Gili Trawangan. If the flight is delayed, tell us and we move the pick-up.
The quote names the airport meeting point, the landing site, the aircraft class, the arrival time and the fixed price.
Payment details come with the quote. Nothing is paid on this website.
We check wind and visibility along the coast and confirm final bag weights. If the pilot does not like the conditions, the flight moves or the part not flown is refunded.

About 20–25 min in the air, 52 km in a straight line. Add 15–20 minutes at the airport for meeting, weighing bags and the briefing, plus a short boat if you land on the north-west coast.
From $1,750 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, which is about $440 each. The empty flight home is already in that figure. A same-day return with a one-hour wait starts at about $2,050.
Only on an approved site, and sites on the Gilis are limited. We ask for the name of your stay first and tell you before you pay whether a landing is cleared. If not, the back-up is a landing on Lombok's north-west coast and a short boat.
Soft bags only go in the helicopter. Repack for the Gilis and leave the big case at a Lombok hotel, or ask us to price a car for it. Tell us the number of bags and rough weights when you book.
Yes, within daylight. Send the flight number and we track the arrival. If the plane lands too close to sunset, we move the flight to the next morning rather than rush it.
In the air 20–25 min against roughly 1.5–2 hours on the road plus a boat, so the saving is a few hours on most days. It costs far more than a shuttle, which is the honest trade-off. See helicopter vs boat for the wider comparison.
Tell us your flight number, how many guests, how many soft bags and where you stay on the Gilis. Our same-day reply gives you the landing answer, the aircraft class and one fixed price.

Skip the Bali traffic: a helicopter from the Ngurah Rai area to your villa or resort in Ubud, Uluwatu, Canggu or further.
Ferry, fast boat, plane or helicopter: times, cost for 2 and 4 guests, luggage and seasickness side by side.
