Helicopter Lombok
Senggigi, Mandalika and Mount Rinjani by private helicopter from Bali. Flights based on Lombok are by quote. Approved landing sites only.

Mount Rinjani rises 3,726 m on Lombok, and the usual summit trek takes several days. A private helicopter reaches it from the Bukit in 40–60 min, flies a circuit of the crater rim and the Segara Anak lake, and brings you back to Bali the same day. It is a long over-water flight, so we price it by quote on total airborne time. Send your date and group size and the quote names the aircraft, the route and any fuel stop. We do not land inside Rinjani National Park.
The helicopter lifts off from a Bukit pad and heads east. Within minutes you are over open water, passing the north-west tip of Nusa Penida on your right. The Lombok Strait is only about 20 km wide at its narrowest, between Nusa Penida and Lombok, but it is deep and the currents are strong. Where they collide you can see tide lines drawn across the surface.
You make landfall on Lombok's west coast near Senggigi, then follow farmland and forest up the western flank. The mountain is a huge cone, one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia, with a caldera at the top holding the crescent-shaped Segara Anak lake. Inside the caldera sits a younger volcanic cone that is still active, with bare slopes below the green rim.
The pilot decides how close to fly to the rim and the lake, and that depends on wind, cloud and the weight on board. Expect one or two passes in good conditions, not a hover over the crater. Then the helicopter turns for the long crossing home. There is no toilet on board; for a flight of this length, plan your morning drinks accordingly.
The quote is built from total airborne minutes. Two crossings take most of them; your time over the mountain is the part you can shorten or extend.
| Leg | Air time | Distance | What it is like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bukit pad to Rinjani | 40–60 min | 149 km | Open water, then Lombok's west coast and the climb up the flank |
| Circuit of the crater and Segara Anak | Agreed with the pilot | Not a fixed distance | Priced on the airborne minutes; shorter if cloud forms |
| Rinjani back to the Bukit pad | 40–60 min | 149 km | The same strait, usually with more haze than in the morning |
| Alternative ending: Rinjani to Lombok airport | 15–25 min | 43 km | For guests who stay on Lombok afterwards; see Bali to Lombok |
These are straight-line estimates for a light helicopter. If the aircraft needs fuel, the quote names a stop at Lombok International Airport and the ground time that goes with it.
Rinjani is the hardest scenic flight we sell. These are the reasons a date moves or a circuit is shortened.
Where the helicopter sleeps at the end of the day changes the price more than the minutes over the crater.
Bukit pad to Rinjani and back to Bali, with two crossings of 40–60 min. Home for dinner. This is the default quote.
Cross to Rinjani, circle, then land at Lombok airport (15–25 min) or an approved site on the coast, such as Senggigi (15–25 min). The helicopter returns to Bali empty. See Lombok from the air.
From the crater to Gili Trawangan is 15–25 min. Landing sites on the Gilis are limited and need prior approval; see Bali to the Gili Islands.
A summit trek on Rinjani usually takes two to four days from Sembalun or Senaru, with an early start for the rim, a steep climb on loose volcanic ground and nights in camp. The helicopter shows you the crater, the lake and the cone inside it in a few hours, with the whole Lombok Strait as a bonus. It suits families with children, older parents, anyone with a knee that will not climb, and anyone who has only one day on the island.
It does not replace the climb. You will not stand on the summit, you will not see sunrise from the rim, and you will not camp by the lake. If those are the point of your trip, trek. If the picture of the mountain is the point, fly.
For scale: Bali to Lombok airport costs $3,250 one-way on our guide price list for the whole helicopter, and that figure already pays for the aircraft's flight back. A Rinjani round trip flies more distance than that transfer and adds time over the mountain, so expect your quote to come in above it. The exact figure depends on your date and group, and you see it before you pay.
For example: 15 September, 4 adults, about 70 kg each, picking up at Ungasan. Say whether you want to return to Bali or end in Lombok.
The quote lists the take-off pad, the legs, any stop, the aircraft class and the total airborne minutes behind the price.
The payment details arrive with the quote, and the site itself takes no money. A back-up day is built in because cloud on the rim is the commonest reason to move.
Be at the pad before the first light window opens. The pilot checks the cloud on Rinjani before lift-off and decides on the day.
Across the Lombok Strait in about 35–50 min instead of a half-day by boat or ferry.
Sanur to Gili Trawangan in 30–40 min instead of 2–2.5 hours on a fast boat. Gili landing sites are limited and approved in advance.
Skip the cross-island drive to Bangsal harbour. Lombok International Airport to Gili Trawangan by air, with the landing agreed in advance.
From the Bukit pad to an approved site on Penida in 14–20 min, with Kelingking and Crystal Bay in view on the way.
Yes, as a scenic day flight. It is 149 km each way from the Bukit across the Lombok Strait, so it is a long flight and we price it by quote. The pilot decides on the day based on cloud, wind and weight.
40–60 min in the air each way, plus the time over the crater and the lake, which we agree with the pilot. If the aircraft needs fuel, a stop at Lombok International Airport adds ground time.
It is priced by quote, because the cost depends on total airborne minutes, the aircraft class and whether you end in Bali or Lombok. For scale, Bali to Lombok airport one-way is $3,250 on the guide price list; the Rinjani round trip flies more than that transfer.
No. Rinjani sits inside a national park, and we do not land on the summit, the rim or by the lake. The flight is aerial only; landings are limited to approved sites outside the park.
The pilot flies what is safe or turns back, and we move the flight to another morning or refund the part that was not flown. We keep a back-up day for every Rinjani booking.
If you are staying on Lombok anyway, the crossing is the expensive part of a Bali start. Rinjani is only 15–25 min from Lombok airport. Ask us for a Lombok-based quote; the inter-island charter page explains how multi-leg days are built.
Send the date, the group and whether you finish in Bali or Lombok. The reply names the legs, the aircraft and one quote.
