Bali to Lombok by Helicopter
Across the Lombok Strait in about 35–50 min instead of a half-day by boat or ferry.

Helicopter Lombok flights start across the strait in Bali: 30–40 min to the Senggigi coast from $2,700, or 35–50 min to Lombok International Airport from $3,250, for the whole helicopter and up to 4 guests. Rinjani, Mandalika and the south coast can be flown on the same day. A flight that starts on Lombok itself depends on where a helicopter is based on your date, so that one is priced by quote on WhatsApp.
Lombok is compact enough that one flight crosses several landscapes. The Senggigi coast on the north-west side is a string of bays with the three Gilis scattered just offshore. Behind it, Mount Rinjani rises to 3,726 m with the Segara Anak crater lake inside its caldera. The south around Kuta Lombok, Tanjung Aan and Selong Belanak is drier, with pale bays under rolling hills, and the Mandalika race circuit sits on the same stretch of coast.
Rinjani is the main reason guests ask for a Lombok flight. A trek to the crater lake takes several days; a helicopter shows the rim, the lake and the slopes in a morning. The mountain sits inside a national park, so we fly it on approved routes and never land inside it. Cloud builds around the summit from late morning, even in the dry season, so a Rinjani flight is the first flight of the day.
On the north side, the Senaru area has the Tiu Kelep waterfall in the forest below the slopes. Off the north-west coast lie Gili Trawangan, Meno and Air, covered in our Gili Islands helicopter guide. In the south-west, Gili Gede is a quieter island off the coast.
Nearly every Lombok flight we plan starts in Bali, across the Lombok Strait, which is about 20 km wide at its narrowest. The table below shows what that costs in minutes and money, and the section after it is honest about the other option: a tour flown from Lombok itself.
From the Ngurah Rai Airport area to the places guests ask about most. Pads outside the airports are confirmed before you pay.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lombok International Airport | 122 km | 35–50 min | from $3,250 |
| Senggigi | 100 km | 30–40 min | from $2,700 |
| Mataram | 106 km | 30–45 min | from $2,850 |
| Kuta Lombok | 123 km | 35–50 min | from $3,250 |
| Mandalika | 126 km | 35–50 min | from $3,250 |
| Mount Rinjani | 147 km | 40–60 min | from $3,800 |
| Gili Trawangan | 105 km | 30–45 min | from $2,850 |
Straight-line distance and airborne minutes; one-way prices include the helicopter's flight back. A same-day return with one hour waiting on the ground adds $300, so Bali to Lombok airport and back with a wait is about $3,550. The Rinjani row is the leg to the mountain only; time spent circling the rim is added in the quote. How prices are built: price page.
Most visitors assume a helicopter waits at Lombok airport. We do not promise that. This is how the three plans work.
| Plan | Where the helicopter starts | Good for | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bali to a Lombok landing | A pad in south Bali: Bukit, the airport or Sanur | Arriving at a Lombok hotel, villa or the airport in under an hour | Guide price from the table above, one-way includes the empty flight back |
| Sightseeing day from Bali | South Bali, back the same evening | Rinjani in the morning, the coast or Mandalika after lunch, the helicopter waiting while you eat or swim | One-way price plus standby at $300 per hour; airport and back from $3,550 |
| Tour flown from Lombok | Lombok International Airport or an approved Lombok pad | A short Rinjani or coast flight for guests already staying on the island | By quote: it depends on whether a helicopter can be based on Lombok on your date, and positioning adds the Bali to Lombok leg |
Lombok-based tours are not a standing timetable. Send the date and we reply the same day with a yes or no and the positioning cost. Our Bali to Lombok helicopter page has the crossing in detail.
Guide figures for local legs from Lombok International Airport. They apply only on days when an aircraft is positioned on the island.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mataram | 26 km | 12–20 min | from $1,250 |
| Senggigi | 39 km | 15–20 min | from $1,350 |
| Kuta Lombok | 15 km | 9–15 min | from $950 |
| Mandalika | 16 km | 9–15 min | from $950 |
| Mount Rinjani | 43 km | 15–25 min | from $1,550 |
| Gili Trawangan | 52 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Gili Air | 49 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
Distances are straight-line. A hop this short is mostly a transfer; a sightseeing flight is priced by the time in the air, so ask for the Rinjani rim or the south-coast loop as a separate quote.
Airport to airport, or to an approved site on the coast. 35–50 min in the air against about 2.5 hours on a fast boat.
The rim and the crater lake from the air. The leg from the Bukit is 40–60 min; the quote adds time over the mountain.
If you have landed at Praya and want the Gilis without the road to the harbour: 20–25 min in the air.
How an approved private pad works, what the site needs and who signs off. Read this before choosing a beach resort.
Bali, Lombok, the Gilis and Nusa Penida strung into one day, with the helicopter waiting between stops.
Pay by the hour for a flexible Lombok day, with the route set on the morning of the flight.
| Way to arrive | Where it puts you | Time | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled flight | Lombok International Airport, Praya | About 40 minutes in the air, plus check-in and baggage | You travel alone or as a pair and your hotel is a drive from Praya |
| Fast boat | A Gili harbour, not the Lombok mainland | About 2.5 hours from Serangan or Padang Bai | You are staying on the Gilis and can leave early in the morning |
| Public ferry, Padang Bai to Lembar | Lembar harbour, south-west Lombok | About 4–5 hours | The lowest fare matters more than the time |
| Private helicopter | The airport, the Senggigi coast or an approved site | 30–40 min to Senggigi in the air | Time is short, the group has bags or children, or you want Rinjani from above on the same trip |
The full comparison with door-to-door times is in Bali to Lombok: ferry, fast boat, plane or helicopter. For the sea route to the Gilis see helicopter vs fast boat.
We land only at sites that are approved before you pay: Lombok International Airport, a resort or hotel helipad, or private land where the owner agrees and the operator has cleared the landing. Most guests choose the airport. It has a controlled runway and ground handling, and it puts you within a drive of Kuta Lombok, Mandalika and Mataram.
For Senggigi and the north-west coast we need a lawn, a field or a pad about 25–30 m across, with no loose items and no overhead lines or tall trees close by. Tell us the name of your hotel and we check the site first.
Public beaches, temple grounds and national parks are closed to our landings, however good the view would be. We name the confirmed site in the quote.
Race weekends at the Mandalika circuit fill the hotels, the road to the south and the helicopter slots at the same time. For those dates, ask four to six weeks ahead and say which grandstand or hotel you need to reach.
April to October is the dry season and gives the clearest coast and the best chance of an open Rinjani summit. November to March is wet: showers build in the afternoon, and the mountain is often in cloud by midday, so morning slots matter more. Flights run in daylight only, from sunrise to sunset, and the light is best between 07:00 and 10:00.
Wind over the strait can add minutes in the afternoon. Rinjani is an active volcano, and an official alert can change the route or hold the flight. The pilot decides on the day. If the flight is unsafe or poor, we reschedule or refund the part not flown.
Demand peaks in July and August and over Christmas and New Year. Our guide to the best time for a helicopter flight covers the light and the cloud pattern in more detail.
For example: 4 guests, Seminyak villa, land at Senggigi hotel, then Rinjani on the way back. If you only know you want Lombok, say so and we suggest a plan from the table above.
The quote names the take-off pad, the landing site, the aircraft class and the price. If you asked for a flight starting on Lombok, it also says whether a helicopter can be there.
The quote ends with the deposit details. This website takes no payments.
We ask for rough weights and the number of soft bags. The day before, we check wind and cloud and confirm the pick-up time. Open hours for messages are 08:00–20:00 WITA.
Across the Lombok Strait in about 35–50 min instead of a half-day by boat or ferry.
Across the Lombok Strait to Rinjani's crater and Segara Anak lake and back to Bali the same day. Priced by quote.
Skip the cross-island drive to Bangsal harbour. Lombok International Airport to Gili Trawangan by air, with the landing agreed in advance.
Sanur to Gili Trawangan in 30–40 min instead of 2–2.5 hours on a fast boat. Gili landing sites are limited and approved in advance.
Both, with a difference. Flights from Bali to Lombok and sightseeing days that return to Bali are priced from the table above. A tour that starts on Lombok depends on whether a helicopter can be based there on your date, so we price it by quote and tell you the same day.
About 40–60 min in the air one way from the airport area, and 40–60 min from the Bukit. The time you spend over the rim is on top, so a morning Rinjani flight from Bali usually fills a half-day with the return.
Yes at an approved site: a resort pad, or open private land near the circuit with the owner's agreement. Not on public beaches. From Bali, 35–50 min in the air, from $3,250 one-way.
From $2,700 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, which is about $675 each for four people. The price includes the helicopter's flight back. A same-day return with a one-hour wait adds $300.
No. Rinjani is inside a national park and landings there are not offered. You see the rim, the Segara Anak lake and the slopes from the air on an approved route, usually in the morning before cloud builds.
Fly to the Gilis if your stay is there; landing sites on the islands are limited and approved case by case, so read the Gili Islands guide first. Fly to Lombok if you are heading for Senggigi, Mandalika, Kuta Lombok or Rinjani, or if you prefer to cross to the Gilis by short boat after landing.
Tell us where you start, where you want to land or what you want to see, how many guests and how many bags. We reply the same day with the aircraft, the pad and a fixed price, or an honest no if nothing flies on your date.
