Bali to Lovina by Helicopter
Over the Bedugul and Munduk lakes to the north coast in 20–30 min, instead of a 3-hour drive.

Helicopter Lovina North Bali flights cross the mountain wall between south Bali and the coast in 20–30 min; the road over Bedugul takes 2.5–3.5 hours. The whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, starts at $1,900 one-way from the airport area. We land at an approved site near your villa or hotel on the north coast, or you meet the helicopter at a pad. The quote names the exact site, and a morning flight can add the Bedugul lakes on the way.
Lovina is a line of small beach villages on Bali's north coast, west of Singaraja, which was once the island's capital. The sea is calm because this coast gets no big surf, the sand is dark volcanic grey, and jukung boats take guests out before first light to look for dolphins. Reefs close to the shore suit snorkellers, and dive trips head west to Menjangan Island. Behind the coast the land climbs quickly: a wall of mountains and highland lakes separates Lovina from the south.
Guests are couples who want it quiet, divers and snorkellers, long-stay visitors and families on a second trip to Bali. They all pay the same toll: the road to the airport crosses the Bedugul highlands and takes 2.5–3.5 hours. By air it is 20–30 min, and three plans use that gap:
The beaches are working beaches, where boats launch and guests walk, so we do not land on them. A pick-up site is a hotel garden with a flat lawn, a villa estate on the lower slope, or open ground that an owner agrees to lend. It needs roughly 25–30 m of flat, clear ground with no loose items and no wires or tall palms close by. The operator clears it, and we confirm the site before you pay.
The alternative is a pad outside the area, which means the 2.5–3.5 hour drive over the hills. On this coast, flying the long leg is the point, and a car is only the last stretch. The exact pad or site is in the quote.
Dolphin boats leave before first light, and helicopters fly from sunrise, so do the dolphins first and the helicopter after breakfast. A flight at 07:30 or 08:00 beats the cloud that builds over Bedugul by late morning.
From the Lovina coast to eight places: the lakes, the volcano, the terraces, Ubud and the south.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Munduk | 13 km | 9–14 min | from $900 |
| Bedugul | 20 km | 10–15 min | from $950 |
| Mount Batur | 40 km | 15–20 min | from $1,350 |
| Jatiluwih | 26 km | 12–20 min | from $1,250 |
| Menjangan Island | 56 km | 20–30 min | from $1,900 |
| Ubud | 47 km | 15–25 min | from $1,550 |
| Tanah Lot | 52 km | 20–25 min | from $1,750 |
| Ngurah Rai Airport | 67 km | 20–30 min | from $1,900 |
Menjangan Island lies inside West Bali National Park, so flights there follow approved routes and never land. Times are airborne only. A one-way fare includes the helicopter's empty flight home; waiting costs $300 per hour, and a Ubud trip with one hour's wait comes to about $1,850. Method: price page.
Over Bedugul and down to the coast in 20–30 min. Land at an approved site near your stay, or fly out to catch an onward flight.
Lovina to the Batur caldera is 15–20 min. Crater, lake and caldera wall in clear morning light, then home before the cloud.
An hour across the island: highland lakes, Munduk's forested valleys, Jatiluwih's terraces and both coasts are the building blocks, and the route is set with you.
Lakes and rainforest with sparkling wine ($120) and flowers ($60) as add-ons. Any landing en route needs an approved site.
Typical daytime estimates for a start in Lovina. The direct roads to the south climb over the mountains first.
| From Lovina to | By road | Helicopter air time | One-way, whole helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ngurah Rai Airport | Car 2.5–3.5 h | 20–30 min | $1,900 |
| Ubud | Car about 2–3 h | 15–25 min | $1,550 |
| Canggu | Car about 2.5–3.5 h | 20–30 min | $1,900 |
| Kintamani, Mount Batur | Car about 1.5–2 h | 14–20 min | $1,300 |
| Amed | Car about 3 h or more | 25–35 min | $2,300 |

At four guests the airport leg is about $475 each. Road times vary with traffic and weather in the hills. More options are on the routes page.
The north coast is less crowded than the south, and gardens are often bigger. That helps, but not every property has the flat ground. Villas on the slope behind the coast road may only have terraces, and the coast road carries overhead lines. A level lawn, a sports field or a cleared plot is the safest start.
In the afternoon an onshore breeze can pick up, so a morning landing is easier. Public beaches, temple grounds and West Bali National Park are never landing sites. Read how villa and hotel landings are approved, then send the property name and a photo of the open area. For a private dinner on a clear plot, see the helicopter picnic and dinner options.
Cross early. From 07:00 to 10:00 the mountains are usually clear and the air is steady, and the crossing is the smoothest part of the day. From late morning cloud collects over Bedugul and Munduk, especially from November to March, and the afternoon can close the pass. April to October is the clearest season.
Lovina's beach faces north, so it does not look into the sunset the way the Kuta or Tanah Lot coast does. For a golden-hour flight we usually suggest a start in the south or on the west coast; the sunset helicopter flight page explains the timing. Book early for July, August and the Christmas weeks: ten to fourteen days ahead is safer.
Say whether you fly to Lovina or from it, name the hotel or village, and give the date, the number of guests and rough weights. If you connect at the airport, add your flight number.
The quote names the pad or landing site, the aircraft class and one price. Private sites can take a few days to clear.
A deposit reserves the helicopter for your date. The quote says how to pay.
Cloud in the hills can stop a crossing. We then move the flight to the next suitable window or refund the part not flown.
About 20–30 min in the air over roughly 67 km, against 2.5–3.5 hours by car. The briefing and the shutdown add about 15–20 minutes on the ground at each end.
From $1,900 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, about $475 each. The fare already covers the empty helicopter's flight back. A same-day return with a one-hour wait starts at about $2,200.
Only on an approved site with roughly 25–30 m of flat, clear ground, where the owner agrees and the operator clears the landing. We do not land on public beaches or in West Bali National Park. Send the name of the property and we answer before you pay.
We cannot promise it. The dolphin boats go out before first light, and helicopters fly from sunrise only. Do the boat trip first and fly after breakfast, when the mountain air is still clear.
On the usual crossing, yes: Lake Beratan lies 10–15 min from Lovina and Munduk 9–14 min. The pilot sets the final route for wind and cloud. See the grand circle tour for a longer version.
Yes. A same-day return with a one-hour wait is the one-way price plus $300 per hour of standby, about $2,200 for the airport to Lovina and back. Flights run in daylight only, so plan the return before the late afternoon.
Tell us the village or hotel on the north coast, the direction of travel, how many guests and what the bags weigh. You get the pad or site, the aircraft and a fixed price back the same day.

30 minutes over the Batur caldera, its crater lake and the Kintamani rim, with the Tegalalang terraces on the way. Mornings, in clear air.
An hour over Mount Batur, the Jatiluwih rice terraces, Tanah Lot and the south coast. A 75-minute version adds a landing at an approved site.
Fly the Batur caldera, or cut a 90–120 minute drive to the airport down to a short flight, with pick-up from an approved site on the rim.
Skip the 2–3 hour road: private helicopter between Amed and the airport, Mount Batur, Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands, with the landing site confirmed first.
30 minutes for two over Ubud and the Batur caldera, or a golden-hour coast flight that ends at sunset. Sparkling wine and photographer optional.
