Helicopter Flights From Lovina & North Bali
Cross the mountains in minutes instead of 2.5–3.5 hours: private helicopter between the north coast and the airport, Ubud, Mount Batur or the lakes.

The road from Ngurah Rai Airport to Lovina climbs through the Bedugul mountains and takes 2.5–3.5 hours. A private helicopter flies straight over them in 20–30 min, past Lake Beratan and the twin lakes at Munduk, and lands on the north coast from $1,900 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests. Dolphin boats go out at first light, usually before a helicopter can fly, so read the timing section before you book.
Bali's north coast is cut off from the south by a wall of volcanoes, and the road has to climb it. From the Ngurah Rai Airport area the helicopter flies over the same wall in a near-straight line. The south is flat farmland and villas; within minutes the ground rises, the rice terraces tighten, and Mount Batukaru, 2,276 m, stands off to the left.
The straight line to Lovina passes close to Bedugul, where Lake Beratan lies with the Ulun Danu temple built out onto the water, and then Munduk, where the twin lakes Buyan and Tamblingan fill two old craters side by side. The Munduk waterfalls are in the forest below. Your view from the cabin is the whole chain at once, something the road, with its bends and its lake-side stops, never shows.
Past the ridge the land drops to the sea. Lovina is a long, thin strip of dark-sand beaches and small hotels, with Singaraja, the former Dutch-era capital, just along the coast and a flat, bright sea beyond. The pilot checks cloud over the ridge before take-off. Mountain cloud builds from late morning, especially in the wet season, so the crossing is best between 07:00 and 10:00.
There is no scheduled flight to north Bali, so the options are the road or a hired helicopter. Times are estimates for an airport or south Bali start.
| Option | Time on the move | What it takes | Cost basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private helicopter | 20–30 min in the air | A pad at the airport end and an approved landing site on the north coast | $1,900 one-way for the whole helicopter, about $475 each for 4 guests |
| Private car with driver | 2.5–3.5 hours each way | The road over Bedugul; traffic on the mountain stretch and a stop or two for the lakes | One fare per car |
| Day trip by car | 5–7 hours of driving, there and back | An early start and a late return, leaving only a few hours in Lovina | One day's car hire with a driver |
| Day return by helicopter | Two flights of 20–30 min, a morning in Lovina | A site in Lovina and a one-hour wait or longer | Starts at $2,200 with one hour of standby; each extra hour $300 |
A morning in Lovina and back for lunch fits into the helicopter option and not into the car option. If you plan to stay for several nights, the one-way helicopter price still covers the aircraft's flight back. For the other direction around the island see the Bali to Amed route.
The traditional boats go out at first light, which is before or around the earliest take-off in most months (sunrise is about 05:50 in December and about 06:35 in June and July). Two plans work; do not try to do both on one morning.
Once you are on the north coast, these are the short flights people add. Menjangan Island lies off the north-west coast, inside the West Bali National Park, so it is a flyover only.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Munduk | 13 km | 9–14 min | from $900 |
| Bedugul | 20 km | 10–15 min | from $950 |
| Kintamani | 36 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
| Mount Batur | 40 km | 15–20 min | from $1,350 |
| Ubud | 47 km | 15–25 min | from $1,550 |
| Menjangan Island | 56 km | 20–30 min | from $1,900 |
Straight-line distance and airborne minutes; each one-way price already pays for the aircraft's empty flight home. For a loop that includes the lakes and Mount Batur see the Mount Batur helicopter tour; for a long day see the 60-minute grand circle.
North Bali is quieter and slower than the south. The helicopter takes the half-day crossing out of the trip and leaves the afternoon for the beach.
Beratan, Buyan and Tamblingan are three stops for a car and one view for a helicopter. Ask the pilot to slow over Munduk; wind and terrain decide how much is possible.
Groups of 5–6 fly in the larger class, and 7–8 guests in two helicopters. Read how a group flight works.
The north coast is lower and less crowded than Canggu or Seminyak, so landing sites tend to be easier to find than on the south coast. The rule of thumb is unchanged: a clear, flat area of roughly 25–30 m across, no loose items, no overhead lines or tall trees close, and an owner who agrees and a landing the operator has cleared. A hotel lawn, a field behind a beach villa or a larger plot inland are the usual answers. Public beaches and temple grounds are not possible.
Send the hotel name or the area. For a sea-front hotel, the managers may want the landing away from guests and boats; we sometimes use a field and a short transfer. The confirmed site comes to you in writing first. The villa and hotel landing page describes the process in detail.
The pilot decides on the day. When cloud sits on the ridge we wait for a gap, move the flight to the next morning, or refund the part that was not flown. We do not push through cloud over a mountain.
For example: airport to a hotel on Lovina beach, 3 guests, 3 soft bags, 5 August, return flight two days later.
You get the pad, the landing site, the aircraft class and the arrival time in writing. Approval for private sites can take a few days.
A deposit holds the slot. The day before, we check the ridge forecast and confirm the time, usually 07:00–08:00.
Be at the pad in good time with soft bags; the pilot checks weights as described in the weight and baggage guide.
Skip 2–3 hours of road: east Bali, Mount Agung and the black-sand coast in 25–35 min.
Skip the Ubud traffic. Ngurah Rai to a pad near Ubud in 13–20 min, with the road time and the landing options laid out honestly.
Across the Bali Strait to Banyuwangi and the Ijen crater lake in 35–50 min, with no landing inside the reserve. Priced by quote.
Across the Lombok Strait in about 35–50 min instead of a half-day by boat or ferry.
20–30 min in the air from the Ngurah Rai Airport area to the north coast, against 2.5–3.5 hours by road. The briefing and shutdown take about a quarter of an hour more at the pad.
$1,900 is the one-way starting price for the whole helicopter and up to 4 guests, about $475 each for a party of four. A return flight with one hour on the ground comes to $2,200, and every further hour is $300.
Not reliably. Dolphin watching happens from small boats at first light, usually before a helicopter can fly. We do not promise sightings. The helicopter is for the mountain crossing and the arrival.
Yes, on a hotel lawn or nearby field that the owner agrees to and the operator clears. You see the confirmed site in writing before any deposit. If the hotel lawn is not suitable, we suggest a field nearby and a short car ride.
The pilot decides. We wait for a gap, move the flight to another morning, or refund the part that was not flown. Cloud builds from late morning, so most flights are booked for 07:00–10:00.
Yes. Lovina to Kintamani is 14–20 min and to Ubud 15–25 min in the air, and we price the stops as one flight. See the Lovina area page for the north coast options.
Send your starting point, the Lovina hotel or area, the date and the group size. Our reply carries the pad, the aircraft and a price that does not move.

30 minutes over the Batur caldera, its crater lake and the Kintamani rim, with the Tegalalang terraces on the way. Mornings, in clear air.
An hour over Mount Batur, the Jatiluwih rice terraces, Tanah Lot and the south coast. A 75-minute version adds a landing at an approved site.
