Medical Emergency on the Bali Islands
Call 112 and your insurer first. What clinics exist on Nusa Penida and the Gilis, and what an urgent private helicopter can and cannot do.

If anyone is in danger or needs a doctor, call 112 and your travel insurer's 24-hour line before you message us. We are not an ambulance and we do not arrange medical evacuation. For urgent non-medical trips, such as being stranded on an island, a missed boat or a time-critical meeting, send your location, deadline and number of guests on WhatsApp. We look for an available helicopter and a landing site and reply with a fixed price, on the same day when daylight, weather and aircraft allow.
Dial 112, the national emergency number, then your travel insurer's round-the-clock assistance line. A flight quote can wait; help cannot.
We are a charter booking service for private flights, not a medical service. A medevac helicopter in Bali or Lombok needs an approved medical crew, a suitably equipped aircraft and the insurer's approval, and it is arranged by the insurer's assistance team or the treating hospital. We never promise a medical evacuation and we cannot replace that process.
What we can do is handle the non-medical side. Once the medical team is in charge, we can price a normal flight, for example to take a family member or travelling companion to the island where a patient is being treated. Read when a helicopter helps in a medical emergency for how island emergencies are handled.
These four account for most urgent requests. Each is a private non-medical flight, found and priced the same day when it is possible.
Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and the Gilis depend on boats. When swell stops the boats, a helicopter may still fly if wind and visibility allow and a landing site is approved. Wind strong enough to stop a boat can also stop a helicopter, and the pilot decides. See Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands.
A fast boat left without you, or your Lombok connection will not wait. The air time from Ngurah Rai Airport to Lombok International Airport is 35–50 min, against about 2.5 hours on a fast boat to the Gilis. See Bali to Lombok by helicopter.
Flooding, a closed harbour or a volcano advisory can change a plan. If the air is clear we can fly around the trouble. If the cause is weather or ash, no operator should fly, and we tell you so; see volcano flight advisories.
A signature, a site inspection or a meeting you cannot miss. We price the single leg. For planned multi-stop days use VIP and corporate charter.
Any one of these can say no. We check them for you and tell you quickly, so you can use the next-best option.
| Factor | What we check | Why it can say no |
|---|---|---|
| Daylight | Flights run from sunrise to sunset; sunset is about 18:05 in June and 18:40 in late December | No night flights, so a late request may have to wait for morning |
| Aircraft and pilot | Whether a suitable helicopter is free and close enough | Moving an aircraft to you adds flight time and cost |
| Weather | Wind, visibility, cloud and sea state | The pilot decides, and the wind that stops boats can stop a helicopter |
| Landing site | An airport, a hotel or resort pad, or a private site with the owner's consent | No landing on public beaches, in temple grounds or national parks; Gili sites are limited and need prior approval |
| Weight and bags | Guest weights and soft bags | Weight limits the load in Bali's heat |
| Airspace and alerts | Air traffic control and volcano advisories for Agung, Batur and Rinjani | Routes can change or close |
Not every urgent trip needs a helicopter. Helicopter against fast boat compares the alternatives.
We answer on WhatsApp between 08:00 and 20:00 WITA. The earlier in the day you write, the more daylight we have to work with.
There is no fixed urgent tariff. The price is the flight time at charter rates, plus any positioning or waiting time, and the quote states every part before you pay. These one-way examples show the scale; each includes the helicopter's flight back.
| Leg | Air time | One-way guide price |
|---|---|---|
| Nusa Penida to the Bukit | 14–20 min | $1,300 |
| Nusa Lembongan to Sanur | 11–15 min | $1,000 |
| Gili Trawangan to Lombok airport | 20–25 min | $1,750 |
| Gili Trawangan to Sanur | 30–40 min | $2,700 |
| Ngurah Rai Airport to Ubud | 13–20 min | $1,300 |
Four guests flying from Gili Trawangan to Lombok airport pay about $440 each. Waiting on the ground is $300 per hour, and any short-notice terms the operator applies are written in the quote. The price page explains how these figures are built.
Island landings are the hard part. Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan have few approved sites, and landing sites on the Gilis are limited and need prior approval. The Gilis also have no motorised vehicles, so a landing site needs a way for you to reach your hotel by bike or horse cart. Send a map pin and the name of your hotel, and we agree the pick-up site with the operator and, where needed, the owner.
Where no site is approved in time, the fallback is usually the nearest airport or a pad on the main island, plus a boat or a car for the last stretch. We tell you that at the start rather than after you pay.
No. A medical evacuation needs an approved medical crew and the insurer's approval, and we do not promise one. Call 112 and your insurer's 24-hour line first. We can help with non-medical flights such as a companion joining a patient.
Call 112, Indonesia's national emergency number, then your travel insurer's assistance line. Keep your policy number and your exact location to hand. Message us only for the non-medical parts.
It depends on aircraft availability, weather, daylight and a landing site. We reply on WhatsApp between 08:00 and 20:00 WITA with a fixed price or a clear no. A same-day flight must also end before sunset.
No. Flights run only in daylight, from sunrise to sunset. If you write late, the earliest flight may be the next morning.
It is by quote for the whole helicopter, based on flight time at charter rates plus any positioning or waiting time. For scale, Gili Trawangan to Lombok airport is about $1,750 one-way. Waiting is $300 per hour.
Possibly. Weather that stops boats also affects helicopters, and the pilot decides. We also need an approved landing site on the island. Send your pin and hotel name and we tell you quickly.
Only where there is an approved pad, or private land with the owner's consent and the operator's clearance. Read how landing at a villa or hotel works, and send a photo and a map pin.
For a medical emergency call 112 and your insurer first. For any other urgent trip, send your location pin, the latest arrival time, the guests and their weights, and we reply with a fixed price or a clear no.
