Bali to Komodo by Helicopter
A multi-leg charter to Labuan Bajo with a fuel stop, planned over two days with aerial time over Komodo National Park.

Komodo National Park is 520 km from Bali in a straight line, so a helicopter from Bali needs a fuel stop and is flown in legs, priced by quote. There is an honest alternative: take a scheduled flight of about 1 h 10 min to Labuan Bajo and charter a helicopter there. Both plans show Padar, Pink Beach and the Komodo and Rinca coasts from the air, and neither lands inside the park.
Ngurah Rai Airport to Komodo Airport at Labuan Bajo is about 520 km in a straight line. An airliner covers it in about 1 h 10 min. A light helicopter cruises at roughly 205–250 km/h, which puts the airborne time near 2.2–3 hours before any stop. The aircraft needs fuel on the way, so the trip is a series of legs, in daylight only, and the line passes over Lombok and Sumbawa, where the operator picks the stops.
That is why this page has no fixed price. The straight-line guide price for the Bali to Labuan Bajo leg alone is $12,000 one-way, before the fuel stop, positioning and permits, so expect the quote to be at or above that figure. One-way includes the helicopter's flight back, so it is close to the price of a return of the same flight.
A same-day out-and-back would spend most of the daylight in transit, with no time to see the park. We plan an overnight in Labuan Bajo, or we suggest the cheaper plan below.
Pick the plan by how much time you have and how much of the cost you want to carry.
| Plan | How you get there | Time | Cost basis | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled flight, then a local helicopter | Airline from Bali to Labuan Bajo; a helicopter based on, or sent to, Flores | About 1 h 10 min on the airliner, then 15–20 min to Padar | Airline fare per person, plus a local helicopter by quote; the Padar leg alone is guide $1,350 one-way | Whether a helicopter is available on Flores on your date is by quote |
| A helicopter flown over from Bali | Bali to Labuan Bajo in legs with a fuel stop, same crew and aircraft | 2.2–3 hours in the air plus stops, a full day each way | By quote; guide leg $12,000 one-way before stops and permits | Two days in practice, with weather needed at both ends |
| Boat only | Day boat or liveaboard from Labuan Bajo | Day trips take a full day; liveaboards run longer | Fare per person; no helicopter | Slow, but it is how people step ashore on Komodo and Rinca under park rules |
Not sure which fits? Our Komodo from Bali by helicopter: reality check runs the numbers in more detail, and the Bali to Komodo helicopter page covers the long-leg plan.
The park became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1991. Its three main islands are Komodo, Rinca and Padar. Padar is the one on postcards: a ridge with a viewpoint above three bays, each with a different colour of sand. Pink Beach on Komodo gets its tint from fragments of red coral in the sand, and the water beside it grades from pale turquoise to deep blue.
Labuan Bajo, on the west end of Flores, is the harbour town where the boats leave. From a helicopter you see the town, the anchored boats, the islands as a scatter of brown hills in blue water and the reefs around them. Komodo dragons live on Komodo and Rinca. From the air you will rarely see one, and we do not fly low over wildlife.
Landings are not offered on Padar, Pink Beach or anywhere inside the park. Flights follow approved routes and height rules, and permit paperwork is part of the quote. We land at Komodo Airport or an approved site outside the park.
Use these figures for budgeting only. Real quotes are built leg by leg.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lombok International Airport | 122 km | 35–50 min | from $3,250 |
| Labuan Bajo | 520 km | 2.2–3 hours | from $12,000 |
| Padar Island | 486 km | 2.1–2.8 hours | from $11,250 |
Distances are straight lines and exclude the fuel stop, positioning and permits. The Lombok row shows how far the Bali leg to a likely first stop would be; the operator chooses the actual stops. The price column is a guide, not a quote.
If you fly commercially to Labuan Bajo and charter there, these are the guide figures for short flights. Availability and the final price are by quote.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Padar Island | 38 km | 15–20 min | from $1,350 |
| Sumba (Tambolaka) | 124 km | 35–50 min | from $3,250 |
Sumba, in the second row, is another far-island target; see the Sumba and Sumbawa guide.
An illustration of how the legs fit into daylight, not a timetable. The real plan depends on the aircraft, the stops and the forecast.

Honest numbers on time, cost and weather, including when to skip the helicopter from Bali.
How we price a multi-stop day or two: flying time, standby and the empty flight back.
Hourly charter with the pilot and fuel included, for plans that change on the day.
The dry season, April to October, gives the clearest air and the best light on the bays; the hills turn gold and brown. After the rains the hills go green, and afternoon showers and cloud are more likely. Mornings, from about 07:00, are the best slots in either season. Flights run in daylight only.
July and August are the busiest weeks for boats, rooms and helicopter slots. Ask for a quote at least two to three weeks ahead for those dates, and keep a spare day in case of weather at either end. The pilot decides on the day; if a flight cannot go safely, we reschedule or refund the part not flown. Our guide to the best time for a helicopter flight covers the cloud pattern in Bali; the same logic of early flights applies on Flores.
Say whether you are open to flying commercially to Labuan Bajo. That is the cheaper plan and we price it first.
We reply with a local-charter option and a helicopter-from-Bali option, each with the pad, the legs and a price built from the guide prices.
Each leg is held once the deposit arrives; how to pay is in the quote. No payment is taken on this website.
A day before each leg we check the forecast. The pilot decides, and a leg that cannot fly is rescheduled or refunded.

Across the Lombok Strait in about 35–50 min instead of a half-day by boat or ferry.
About 520 km in a straight line to Labuan Bajo, which a light helicopter flies in about 2.2–3 hours of airborne time plus a fuel stop. We plan it in legs over one or two days.
It is priced by quote. As a guide, the straight-line leg alone works out near $12,000 one-way before the fuel stop and permits, and one-way includes the empty flight back. A scheduled flight plus a local charter is usually the cheaper plan.
No. Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and landings inside it are not offered. You see the islands from the air on an approved route, and we land at Komodo Airport or an approved site outside the park.
For most guests, yes: it saves a full day of flying and the cost of the long legs. The catch is that a helicopter on Flores is available by quote and depends on the date. We tell you in the reply which plan works.
Not sensibly by helicopter. The legs would fill most of the daylight and leave no time over the park. Plan at least one night in Labuan Bajo, or fly commercially for the day and charter locally.
April to October for the clearest air and gold hills, early in the morning. The wet season has green hills and more cloud and showers. July and August are the busiest, so ask early.
Send two or three possible dates, your guests and where you start. We reply with a local-charter option and a helicopter-from-Bali option, each with legs, pad and price.
