Uluwatu Helicopter Tour
18 minutes along the Bukit cliffs: Uluwatu Temple, the Suluban and Padang Padang surf breaks, Bingin and Balangan, then Jimbaran Bay.

A Bali airport to Uluwatu helicopter flight takes 9–14 min over 13 km, where a car takes about 40–60 minutes. The whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, is $900 one-way, so this is a short hop with a real price. We tell you plainly when a car is the smarter choice, and when a timed cliff-top event, a bad-traffic day or a coast-hugging arrival makes the helicopter worth it. Cliff-top resorts and venues need an approved landing, which we confirm before you pay.
The airport and Uluwatu are only 13 km apart in a straight line. A one-way fare includes the helicopter's flight back, because it returns empty, so you pay for the aircraft's time in both directions. That is why this transfer costs more than a longer scenic flight that ends where it began: you are buying the shortcut, not the minutes.
What the shortcut saves is road time, roughly 40–60 minutes by car in daytime, and the exposure to traffic on the main road down the Bukit. What it does not save is the 15–20 minutes at each end for meeting, weighing bags, the briefing and shutdown. If you have no deadline, a car is cheaper by a wide margin. If you have a timed event on a cliff, the helicopter takes the road out of the plan.
Car times are ranges for daytime and move with traffic.
| Option | Time on the move | What the trip involves | Cost basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helicopter to Uluwatu | 9–14 min airborne | Airport pad, a briefing, a landing at an approved cliff-top site or a nearby pad | $900 one-way for the whole helicopter, about $225 each for 4 guests |
| Helicopter to the Ungasan pad, then a car | 7–12 min airborne, then the last stretch by road | The cheaper flight when your hotel has no landing area; the car finishes the trip | $750 one-way for the helicopter, plus the car |
| Private car or taxi | About 40–60 minutes by road | Door to door with luggage, no landing permission, slow at busy times | A small fraction of the helicopter price |
| Shared shuttle | Longer, with several drop-offs | Fixed departures, shared seats | Lowest cost per person |
The Ungasan area on the Bukit is where most south Bali flights lift off; the exact pad is written in your quote. For the full picture of landing sites near the cliffs, see helicopter Uluwatu and helicopter Ungasan.
If sightseeing is the real goal, a scenic flight from the Bukit pad gives more air time for less money.
| Flight | What happens | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| Airport to Uluwatu transfer | One way, 9–14 min in the air, you land at the cliffs | $900 |
| 12-minute Bukit flight | Round trip from the pad: GWK, the Pandawa cliffs and Uluwatu Temple | $450 |
| 18-minute Uluwatu cliff flight | Round trip along the cliffs, the temple and the surf breaks | $650 |
| 18-minute golden-hour flight | The same cliffs, timed to end at sunset | $750 |
A common plan is to take the car to your hotel and spend the helicopter money on the Uluwatu helicopter tour or a golden-hour flight. Prices are guide prices per helicopter; see the price page.
From the airport the helicopter turns south over Jimbaran Bay with its seafood cafes, crosses the neck of the Bukit and picks up the white limestone cliffs. Padang Padang and Bingin show as small coves below the rim, and Uluwatu Temple stands on its sea cliff, about 70 m above the water. The whole flight is short enough that you land before you have settled in.
Cliff-top landings need more care than a flat inland site. Wind curls up the cliff face, the rim can be only metres from the clearing, and venues have fences, cables and guests close by. The operator prefers sites set back from the edge with a flat, cleared area of roughly 25–30 m across, no loose items and no overhead lines or tall trees close, and it needs the owner's agreement. We do not land at Uluwatu Temple, in temple grounds or on the public beaches.
The Kecak dance at the temple runs at sunset. If you plan to see it, land at an approved pad nearby and finish by car; the helicopter cannot take you to the temple itself.
Straight-line figures from Ngurah Rai Airport to the places guests on the Bukit ask for.
| Destination | Distance | Air time | One-way helicopter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uluwatu | 13 km | 9–14 min | from $900 |
| Padang Padang | 10 km | 8–13 min | from $800 |
| Ungasan (Bukit) | 7 km | 7–12 min | from $750 |
| Jimbaran | 5 km | 7–11 min | from $700 |
| Nusa Dua | 9 km | 8–12 min | from $800 |
| Nusa Penida | 34 km | 14–20 min | from $1,300 |
Each one-way figure already pays for the helicopter's empty flight home. Waiting one hour at Uluwatu and flying back is about $1,200 in total, and each extra hour on the ground is $300. The price page explains the build-up.
A ceremony at a set time on the Bukit does not wait for the road. Fly the couple or the family in, and see helicopter weddings for the arrival set-up.
Land at midday and open the trip with the cliffs from above. Ask for a coast-hugging routing past Jimbaran and GWK; extra minutes are priced at the guide rate.
A meeting at a Bukit venue with a flight out the same day. The VIP and corporate page covers repeat flights and standby.
For example: arrival 12:15 on 22 August, 4 guests, 4 soft bags, cliff-top resort at Uluwatu.
The quote names the airport meeting point, the landing site or the Ungasan pad, the aircraft class and the fixed price. Approval at a private site can take a few days.
Payment details come with the quote. Nothing is paid on this site.
If wind or cloud are poor, the pilot calls it off. We move the flight to the next suitable slot or refund the part not flown, and a car stays available as the backup.
Skip the Ubud traffic. Ngurah Rai to a pad near Ubud in 13–20 min, with the road time and the landing options laid out honestly.
Ngurah Rai to Canggu or Seminyak in minutes, with an approved landing site agreed before you pay.
From the Bukit pad to an approved site on Penida in 14–20 min, with Kelingking and Crystal Bay in view on the way.
About 9–14 min in the air, 13 km in a straight line. Add 15–20 minutes at the pad for the meeting and briefing. By car the same trip takes about 40–60 minutes.
From $900 one-way for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests, which is about $225 each. That covers the empty flight home. With a one-hour wait and the return, the total is about $1,200.
Not for most guests. A car is far cheaper and the saving in time is under an hour. It is worth it for a timed event, a group of four sharing the cost, or when you want the cliffs as your first sight of the island.
Only if the resort has a flat, cleared area, preferably set back from the cliff edge, and the owner and the operator agree. We do not land at the temple, on public beaches or in national parks. The villa landing guide sets out the rules.
Send the flight number and we track it. A delay that pushes the landing too close to sunset moves the helicopter transfer to the next morning, and the car backup stays in place.
Yes. Ask for a routing along the coast past Jimbaran, GWK and the temple. Extra minutes are priced at the guide rate and the total is fixed in the quote. For a separate sightseeing flight see the GWK and Bukit helicopter tour.
Tell us your flight number, guests, soft bags and the Uluwatu hotel or venue. Our same-day reply gives the landing answer, the aircraft class and a fixed price, and says so if a car is the better call.
