How Much Does a Helicopter Cost in Bali?
Prices for scenic flights, charter by the hour and island transfers in 2026, and how to compare two quotes.
A helicopter tour in Bali is worth it if you have 12 to 60 minutes and want views you cannot get by road: the Bukit cliffs, the Ubud terraces, Mount Batur or Nusa Penida. It is not worth it for a solo traveller on a tight budget, for guests who dislike noise or heights, or if you expect to land at the landmarks. A 12-minute flight is $450 for the whole helicopter, or $115 each for four. Below: who gains, what you see in 12, 18, 30 and 60 minutes, the cost per minute and per person, what to expect in the cabin and how to get the most from it.

The flight is short and priced by the aircraft, so the answer depends on your group, your budget and what you want to see.
| Worth it if you | Probably not worth it if you |
|---|---|
| Have 12 to 60 minutes and want a view no road gives, such as the whole Bukit cliff line or the Batur caldera | Are travelling alone on a tight budget, since one guest pays the full price for the aircraft |
| Travel as two to four, so the price splits across the cabin | Expect to land at Uluwatu Temple, Kelingking or a public beach; scenic flights return to the pad |
| Are short of time and want Penida, Batur or Ubud without a long day of driving | Dislike noise, vibration or heights, or get motion sick easily |
| Are marking a moment: a proposal, an anniversary, a honeymoon, a birthday | Can only fly at midday in the wet season and cannot move the date |
| Want to photograph the coast or terraces from above | Expect an open-door cinema shot; windows stay shut in flight |
| Are older or less mobile and still want the cliffs and volcanoes | Want a walk and a swim on the island rather than a view of it |
If most of the right-hand column is you, a viewpoint, a boat day or a trek is better value. See the comparisons on Batur trek against helicopter and Nusa Penida boat against helicopter.
Prices are for the whole helicopter, up to 4 guests. The last column is the blended price of a minute of aircraft time, which is almost the same on every length.
| Flight | What passes under the window | Whole helicopter | Each, 2 guests | Each, 4 guests | Per aircraft-minute |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 min Bukit | The 121 m GWK statue, the white Pandawa and Melasti cliffs, Uluwatu Temple on its sea cliff | $450 | $225 | $115 | about $38 |
| 18 min Uluwatu | The temple, Suluban, Padang Padang, Bingin, Balangan, then Jimbaran Bay | $650 | $325 | $165 | about $38 |
| 30 min Batur or Penida | Tegalalang terraces, the Kintamani rim, the 1,717 m cone and Lake Batur; or Kelingking, Broken Beach and Crystal Bay | $1,150 | $575 | $290 | about $38 |
| 60 min grand circle | Ubud, Batur, Jatiluwih, Tanah Lot and the south coast on one take-off | $2,300 | $1,150 | $575 | about $38 |
Sunset flights that end at golden hour cost a little more, from $750 for 18 minutes. Guide prices are listed on the price page.
Helicopter pricing has one lever and one trap. The lever is the number of guests: the aircraft costs the same with one guest or four, so the 12-minute flight is $450 for a solo traveller and $115 each for four. The trap is length. A minute costs about $38 of aircraft time whichever flight you pick, so the 60-minute circle at $2,300 is no bargain per minute against the 12-minute flight at $450. You are buying more sights, not a discount.
That changes how to read value. If you can fill the cabin, the 18-minute Uluwatu flight is $165 each, which is the price of a short ride with a famous coast under it. If you fly alone, the same flight is $650, and a viewpoint or a boat day is probably the better use of the money.
| Guests | 12 min | 18 min | 30 min | 60 min |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 guest | $450 | $650 | $1,150 | $2,300 |
| 2 guests | $225 | $325 | $575 | $1,150 |
| 3 guests | $150 | $220 | $385 | $770 |
| 4 guests | $115 | $165 | $290 | $575 |
More than 4 guests needs the 6-seat class, about 1.4 times the 4-seat rate, or two helicopters. Weights matter; see weight limits and baggage.
Set expectations before you book. A light helicopter is loud, and you wear a headset that lets you and the pilot talk. It vibrates more than an airliner, and in the heat of the afternoon it moves around in the air. Windows stay shut in flight, so photos go through glass, and the glass can add reflections. You step up onto a skid to board, you may be weighed with your bags, and the hold is small, so soft bags only.
The flight time is airborne time. Plan for 15 to 20 minutes at the pad before lift-off for the briefing and headsets, and a few minutes after landing for shutdown. The first minute or two goes on climbing out, which means a 12-minute flight feels short and the 18-minute flight is the better first choice if the cliffs are your goal.
Nervous flyers do well on a morning flight over land, such as the 12-minute Ubud flight, and badly on a bumpy afternoon over open water. Tell the pilot at the pad. Read what to ask an operator about safety before you book, and the what to wear guide for the details of clothes and bags.
The helicopter is the best answer when time is short, the group is two to four and the view is the point. If you want to compare prices before you decide, what a helicopter costs in Bali lists every flight.
It is worth it for two to four guests who want a view no road gives, such as the Bukit cliffs at golden hour or the Batur caldera. It is poor value for a solo traveller, because one guest pays the full $450 for 12 minutes.
The 12-minute Bukit flight is $225 each for two and $115 each for four. The 30-minute Batur or Penida flight is $575 each for two and $290 each for four. Prices are for the whole helicopter.
For most first-time flyers it is the 18-minute Uluwatu flight at $650, because it packs the temple, the surf breaks and Jimbaran Bay into one short flight. See the Uluwatu helicopter tour. The 12-minute flight is the cheapest way to fly.
It is enough to see GWK, the Pandawa cliffs and Uluwatu Temple once. If you want time to look back and take photos, the 18-minute flight gives six more minutes for $650.
It is loud, so you wear a headset, and a light helicopter can bump in the heat of the afternoon. Morning flights over land are the calmest. Tell the pilot if you are nervous, and the route can be flown more gently with landmarks pointed out.
Yes, if you fly in the morning. From November to March showers cluster in the afternoon, while mornings are usually fine. Give us two dates and we re-check the weather the evening before and again at dawn.
Send the date, the number of guests and what you would like to see. We reply the same day with the pad, the length and a fixed price, so you can compare it with a boat or a trek.
